From the BBC: More than 6,000 children in the Gaza Strip have attempted to set a new world record by flying the largest number of kites together in one location.
The Guinness Book of World Records said it had received an application from Gaza but that it was unable to send a judge to the event due to travel restrictions imposed by the Israeli blockade.
A spokeswoman said there were other ways of verifying the feat and UNRWA says a final tally of the number of kites flown will be released on Saturday.
John Ging, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in Gaza, described the colourful effort as "an expression of the demand for liberty from these children." video link
