Protesters on the march to MP's office
March 28, 2009 09:54 AM - Outraged citizens hoping to meet Great Britain MP George Galloway are picketing Conservative MP Bob Derchert's office this afternoon to pressure the government to reverse its ban on the outspoken anti-war MP.
Galloway was scheduled to speak at venues in Mississauga, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa in a series of engagements hosted by the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War. However, Galloway has been banned by the Canadian government on grounds of national security.
Galloway was to speak in Mississauga on Tuesday.
Organizers are asking the public to defend free speech by attending the picket at 1270 Central Pkwy W. at 2 p.m. The picket is a part of many organized across the Greater Toronto Area this weekend.
Organizers are also encouraging the public to continue buying tickets to the shows that will still proceed through video conference if their efforts are in vain.
