June 20, 2010 In a historic action and unprecedented action today, more 800 worker and community activists blocked the gates of the Oakland docks in the early morning hours, prompting longshore workers to refuse to cross the picketlines where they were scheduled to unload an Israeli ship.

From 5:30 am to 9:30 am, a militant and spirited protest was held in front of four gates of the Stevedore Services of America, with people chanting non-stop, “Free, free Palestine, don’t cross the picket line” and “An injury to one is an injury to all, bring down the apartheid wall".

Citing the health and safety provisions of their contract, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union workers refused to cross the picketline to report for duty. more after this:



Between 8:30 am and 9:00 am, an emergency arbitration was conducted at the Maersk parking lot nearby, with an “instant” arbitrator called to the site to rule on whether the workers could refuse to cross the picketline without disciplinary measure.

At 9:15 a.m, after again reviewing the protests of hundreds at each gate, the arbitrator ruled in favour of the union that it was indeed unsafe for the workers to enter the docks.

To loud cheers of “Long live Palestine!” Jess Ghannam of Free Palestine Alliance and Richard Becker of the ANSWER Coalition announced the victory. Ghannam said, “This is truly historic, never before has an Israeli ship been blocked in the United States!”

The news that a container ship from the Zim Israeli shipping line was scheduled to arrive in the Bay Area today has sparked a tremendous outpouring of solidarity for Palestine, especially in the aftermath of the Israeli massacre of volunteers bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza on May 31.

With 10 days advance notice of the ship’s arrival, the emergency Labor/Community Committee in Solidarity with the Palestinian People was set up. On June 16, some 110 people from unions and community came to help organise logistics, outreach and community support. Initiating organisations included the Al-Awda Palestine Right to Return Coalition, the ANSWER Coalition, the Bay Area Labor Chapter of USLAW and the Bay Area Labor Committee for Peace & Justice.

The Labor/Community Committee in Solidarity with the People of Palestine also included: Arab American Union Members Council, Palestine Youth Network, US Palestine Community Network, Arab Youth Organization, MECA -- Middle East Children's Alliance, Students for Justice in Palestine, Arab Resource and Organizing Center, International Action Center, International Solidarity Movement, San Jose Peace and Justice Center, International Socialist Organization, Peace and Freedom Party -- SF, Transport Workers Solidarity Committee and many labor activists in the Bay Area.

This week the San Francisco Labor Council [see below] and Alameda Labor Council passed resounding resolutions denouncing Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Both councils sent out public notices of the dock action.

The ILWU has a proud history of extending its solidarity to struggling peoples the world over. In 1984, as the Black masses of South Africa were engaged in an intense struggle against South African apartheid, the ILWU refused for a record-setting 10 days to unload cargo from the South African Ned Lloyd ship. Despite million-dollar fines imposed on the union, the longshore workers held strong, providing a tremendous boost to the anti-apartheid movement.

Today’s Oakland action, in the sixth largest port in the United States, is the first of several protests and work stoppages planned around the world, including Norway, Sweden and South Africa. It is sure to inspire others to do the same.

The goal is for a 24-hour shutdown of the docks where the Israeli ship is docked, so the protest is planned again for 4:30 pm. more after this:

have condemned the May 31st Israeli commando attack on the Gaza Aid Flotilla, which killed at least nine unarmed people and seized and detained some 700 passengers and crew. Many of these labor organizations, as well as the U.N. and Amnesty International, have also called for an independent international investigation of the attack and for a permanent opening of the Gaza border in accordance with international law; and

Whereas the Elders, a group started by Nelson Mandela including six Nobel peace prize winners (former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari, former US President Jimmy Carter, detained Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi, and former Archbishop Desmond Tutu) described as "completely inexcusable" the Israeli attack on the Gaza Aid Flotilla and stated: "This tragic incident should draw the world's attention to the terrible suffering of Gaza's 1.5 million people, half of whom are children under the age of 18," and also noted that "the treatment of the people of Gaza is one of the world's greatest human rights violations and that the blockade is Š illegal"; and

Whereas the aid carried on the ship was strictly humanitarian in nature, containing materials such as wheelchairs, medical, school and building supplies and non-perishable foods -- items that Israel has refused to allow into Gaza since 2007, or only in insufficient amounts to meet the pressing needs of Gaza's people; and

Whereas the military assault on the Gaza Aid Flotilla was carried out in the dead of night in international waters in violation of accepted norms of state conduct regarding use of the open ocean for non-military purposes; and

Whereas, in solidarity with the people of Gaza, the Swedish Dock Workers Union is refusing to work Israeli ships from June 22-29, and the Norwegian dock workers have agreed not to work Israeli cargo from June 15-29 -- in response to the attack on the Gaza Aid Flotilla; and

Whereas the San Francisco Labor Council has previously adopted two resolutions calling for the lifting of the blockade against Gaza.

Therefore be it resolved that the San Francisco Labor Council join the long list of labor organizations around the world and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in condemning the unwarranted May 31st attack by the Israeli military on the unarmed humanitarian aid flotilla sailing in international waters; and

Be it further resolved that the council join the UN, Amnesty International, ITUC, COSATU and the many other labor and civil society organizations in calling for an independent international investigation of the attack on the Gaza Aid Flotilla; and

Be it further resolved that the council reaffirms its position in calling on Israel to lift the blockade, so the people of Gaza can have normal communication, travel and commerce with the rest of the world; and

Be it finally resolved that the council communicate this resolution to affiliated unions, area labor councils, community allies, the California Federation of Labor, the AFL-CIO, Change to Win, all members of the House and Senate who represent the jurisdiction of this council, and to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The latest report [1] of the International Development Select Committee regarding the Occupied Palestinian Territories (31 January 2007) makes for very distressing reading. In its section on trade, it refers to the ongoing restrictions in movements and access faced by the OPT, citing an OXFAM [2] report which points out "that transaction costs for Palestinians wishing to export products are up to 70% higher than for Israelis exporting the same product. This market benefit is also true of products produced by Israeli settlers in the West Bank who can get direct access to markets in or through Israel without the disruptive road blocks and back-to-back transfers faced by the Palestinians. In addition, Palestinians face a range of regulations which do not appear to be linked to security. Moreover, the Palestinians are obliged to rely on Israeli intermediaries to transport their goods and therefore, do not pay purchase taxes and customs to the Palestinian Authority, which creates further losses to the economy of 3% of the GDP a year." The report concludes that "the viability of a future Palestinian economy depends significantly on its trading opportunities."

In order to challenge the stronghold Israel has on Palestine and its fledgling economy, a group of Jewish and Israeli residents in Britain was set up as a subsection of the campaign undertaken by Boycott Israeli Goods – BIG. [3] The new group, J-BIG, is an outcome of the deep frustration Jewish peace activists feel towards the inaction displayed by the Jewish community and its liberal wing with regard to Israel's repressive occupation of Palestinian land. J-BIG members believe that Israel's policies "constitute a betrayal of the best trends in Jewish ethical tradition" and operate a form of racism which is reminiscent of South African Apartheid - inflaming hatreds that render impossible the achievement of a just peace for both Israelis and Palestinians. Like ‘Enough!’ - the new coalition of trade unions, peace, faith and human rights organisations in Britain. J-BIG believes that the British Government fails to stand up for the right of the Palestinian people and thus, calls for a consorted grass roots action. Along with the wider BIG campaign, members take part in direct action aiming to prevent the marketing and selling of goods and produce originating from the illegal settlements in the West Bank and from Israeli companies, especially those which are known to profit from the unlawful occupation. J-BIG’s strength is in the fact that being Jewish we are unlikely to encounter charges of Anti-Semitism made frequently by the Jewish community against those who criticise Israel's policies. At the same time, we hope that our stance will act as a "wake- up" call for the Jewish community in Britain and offer some symbolic support to the Palestinians who tend to regard the Jewish community as a keen champion of Israel's policies. We hope that our actions will help attract greater publicity for the BIG campaign. Indeed, a recent picketing of Carmel- Agrexco, an Israeli marketing company, gained much publicity in the Jewish and Israeli press.

Carmel-Agrexco [4] is a 50% Israeli state-owned export company which is responsible for exporting the majority of fruit and vegetables from illegal settlements in the West Bank to the UK. The UK forms a large part of the market for settlement produce, making up 60% of Carmel-Agrexco's total exports. Carmel-Agrexco profits from Israel's illegal occupation and entrenched system of racial apartheid in the occupied Palestinian territories. In the Jordan Valley of the West Bank, Carmel-Agrexco set its farms on confiscated Palestinian land offering Palestinian farmers less than a living wage. Carmel-Agrexco can deliver fruits and vegetables to Europe in 24 hours while the produce of Palestinian farmers cannot get through the illegal Israeli military checkpoints and has to be left to rot in the field.

The picket of Carmel-Agrexco took place shortly before Valentine Day when the demand for Agrexco's flowers are at its highest. Although the number of those picketing was just above 100, the attendance of J-BIG attracted special attention by the Israeli press. Interviewed by the Jerusalem Post, Deborah Fink - the convener of J-BIG, contended: "This is a grass roots action. It is a way the ordinary person can put pressure on Israel... It’s also to tell Jews that what Israel is doing is wrong. What Israel is doing is going against Jewish ethics. Uprooting olive trees is against Jewish law." Although the representative of Carmel-Agrexco-UK dismissed the disruptive action, there is no doubt that such an action has a cumulative effect which help to turn consumers and the public against Israel, whose 2006 bombardment of Lebanon, "summer rain" shelling of Gaza and continued military incursions into the West Bank are etched in the public consciousness. Indeed, the results of a recent worldwide BBC's poll of 28,000 people in 27 countries show that Israel is the most negatively viewed county. 56% of interviewees felt that Israel has a mostly negative influence on the world - a rating which is higher than any other country, including Iran and North Korea (Jewish News 8 March 2007).

J-BIG's campaign however, is not focused on one-off events. It is in the process of launching an ongoing campaign which will put pressure on supermarkets by informing them and their customers about Israel's violation of human rights in the Occupied Territories, and of Israel's use of unethical and exploitative methods in marketing the produce of its illegal settlements in the West Bank - taking advantage of Palestinian labour and produce. In addition, J-BIG members will be requesting supermarkets to clearly label all goods which originate from the West Bank and Israel in order to help consumers make an ethical choice.

An additional aim of J-BIG is to promote Palestinian produce, especially extra virgin, organic, olive oil which is marketed by Zaytoun [5] in accordance with the Fair Trade's code of practice. The olive oil comes directly from the West Bank and from Israeli-Palestinian farmers who suffer from restrictions on their land ownership and use of water resources in Israel, (for a full account of the restrictions and discrimination suffered by Israeli-Palestinians see Susan Nathan's book: The Other Side of Israel: My Journey Across the Jewish/Arab Divide [6]). J-BIG members are promoting the sale of Zaytoun oil by giving it greater publicity through the media and by direct contact with potential vendors . They also aim to improve the market penetration of Zaytoun by selling the oil directly to friends, family relatives and members of the public. Palestine is the origin of the olive tree with some of the oldest olive groves in the world dating as far back as 1500 to 2000 years. This fact combined with the Mediterranean climate, rich fertile soil and the use of organic traditional farming methods makes Zaytoun's Palestinian olive oil a world beating product, with which Israeli olive oil that is produced mostly from younger olive trees, will find hard to compete.

On a political level, members of J-BIG have joined the wider campaign for abolishing the special trade and economic benefits granted to Israel as part of its trade agreement with the European Union . Indeed a significant number of British MPs appear to support this campaign. In February 2007 an Early Day Motion (EDM) submitted to Parliament by Derek Wyatt notes that Israel "has routinely prevented the free movement of Palestinian goods and people and has withheld Palestinian funds from their people...... These and other grievous human rights abuses represent a clear breach of Article Two of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which calls for adherence to human rights." The EDM goes on to commend the International Development Select Committee's recommendation that "the UK should urge the EU to use the Association Agreement with Israel as a lever for change and to consider suspending the Agreement until there are further improvements in access arrangements."

J-BIG and other activists have been writing to their respective MPs and requesting them to support Wyatt's EDM. It appears that the number of British MPs who have been signing the EDM is indeed growing, and the campaign for bearing pressure on Israel is taking root .

Being an Israeli-born citizen I hope, like the rest of my colleagues, that our campaign of boycotting Israel's produce of repression and "fruits of injustice" will successfully spearhead a grass roots action within the Jewish community against a brutal occupation which seeks to stamp out the Palestinians' legitimate aspirations for nationhood.

ISRAEL AFTER MORE LAND, AND THEY WANT HELP

Anyone with any doubt about Israel trying to steal all the land need look no further than this example I am posting about today. Israel does not want peace, they want to own 99.9% of Palestine, they want to fill it with so many Jews that there will be "no room at the inn" for ANY Palestinians, including the ones who already live there. At the moment they are spread just a bit too thin, what with all those squatter settlers all over Palestine trying to hold onto their stolen lands, it's just not enough, Israel needs help. So, their little Zionist brains come up with a plan to "entice" Jews who have left Israel, to hurry up and come "home." Yeah, spread that Zionist population right out, right over the remaining bits of Palestine, quick, hurry up, we need to get all we can before we might be forced into some Zionist restraining peace process and two state solution.

Note the comment below, by the "head of the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption" Scary sounding title, like an Alien entity, standing by to re-educate and program you upon arrival.

linkA new plan to encourage the return of some 15,000 Israeli expatriates from abroad received government approval on Sunday.

The plan, formulated by the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, consists of a marketing campaign aimed at expatriate Israelis as well as a package of tax, education and health insurance benefits for Israelis who have lived abroad for five or more years to return to Israel.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, around 750,000 Israelis currently live overseas, with around 60 percent in North America and 25 percent in Europe.

The ministry estimates that the new plan approved on Sunday will bring back 15,000 more Israeli expatriates.

The government will also provide a 30 million shekel budget for small business initiatives of returning citizens.

Now, I think many of that 60% living in America might just want to stay there, rather than live in some illegal prison called "Israel" all walled up because everyone around you despises you, where the entire world sees you as a pariah and threat to world peace, where you have to resort to jailing and censoring your scientists rather then telling the truth about your nukes, where there is a worldwide boycott against you, where your government and army are continually accused of war crimes against humanity, where you live in a state with "only" your kind, all just like you, except, of course, for those you see as lower life form slave laborers that you allow in to pick your fruit and shine your shoes.

IN ISRAEL A DOG OR CAT IS WORTH MORE THAN A PALESTINIAN LIFE

How many times have I started a post by saying this sentence: "Israel never ceases to amaze me?" But it's just SO true. The lengths and breadth Zionists will go to in order to give the "appearance" of being humane, or human............. Is truly deserving of a Hollywood Oscar.

So we all saw the "hasbara" operation in Haiti, Israel to the rescue, look how nice we are, helping the poor dark skinned people in Haiti, whilst murdering, de-homing and ethnically cleansing the dark skinned people in Jerusalem and Palestine.

But now the Zionists have moved on, to yet another "hasbara moment" this time it's about animal welfare. Yup, Israel is to become the first "fur free" country, because they love furry little animals and all mankind. And, as added benefit, according to Zionists, this will show the world how nice they are:

link The campaign began when an Israeli news station reported that much of the “fake” fur being imported from China was, in fact, made from the pelts of cats and dogs. Since then it has mushroomed into an effort to make Israel the first fur-free state. Mr Rotbart added that the move would give the country much-needed positive publicity, after a year in which it was criticised in a UN report for alleged war crimes.

And here it comes, the big "hasbara" moment:

“We’d have something more humane to show the world,” he said.

How insane is that? Because in fact, Israel has done the exact opposite. Instead of people viewing them as "wonderful humane" people. They will be seen for what they are. Opportunistic Zionists, continually looking for any worthy cause to "use" in a vain attempt to rehabilitate their rotten image in the world. Instead of viewing these actions as "positive publicity" people will instead wonder why they make a fuss about the fur of animals whilst they have no morals about killing or ethnically cleansing their fellow human beings.

Moral of the story is that in Israel, one dog or cat is worth more than all the dead or homeless Palestinians....................

THE WORLD SHOULD SEE THIS

Last night an episode called “Children of Gaza” was aired on Channel 4’s Dispatches. This was a landmark program and a watershed moment for British television, truly incredible. Although it was aired in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, I would encourage people around the world to view it online HERE. Tissues at the ready, this is very powerful stuff.

Final thoughts: If only America, with all of its so called “Journalistic Freedom” would have the courage to air such a program, then perhaps the American people could wake up to what their 3 Billion a year to Israel does in their name. If you ever needed a reason to reaffirm and support the Boycott of Isarel, this is it!

Isreal Defrauds Palestinian Workers

Bad enough on its own merit, the article continues to expose the exploitation of Palestinian workers by the Histradut (Israeli Labor Federation) :

which levies a monthly fee on Palestinian workers, even though they are not entitled to membership and are not represented in labor disputes.

Histradut also agreed to an additional 2 percent tax increase which helps to train newly arrived Soviet Jews for the construction industry. These "alien to the land" Jews of course replace "native to the land" Palestinians in the workforce.

I have been reading a bit about how boycott is "harming" Palestinians. Some collaborators and hasbaras who dare use the Palestinian persona online are fighting against boycott because they argue that this leads to more suffering of our beloved people.

When you hear or read that argument, please do not let it deter you. At the very least ask yourself, or the impersonator, these questions: "What conditions do Palestinians who work for Israeli companies endure? What pay to they receive? What guarantees do they have that they will be able to travel to their jobs on a daily basis? If taxes are docked from their pay, what benefits do the Palestinian workers stand to receive? What are their rights? How many actually have jobs in the first place? etc. etc. etc. "

From American experience, I know that one can compare these work conditions to those faced by illegal immigrants in the U.S. But Palestinians are not illegal citizens in Palestine, they are Occupied and as such, are supposed to be protected not blatantly exploited by a nation full of greedy bastards.

HIDE THOSE NUKES & ATTACK IRAN

IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

I mean seriously. It’s like getting up every morning and having to go to a job your conscience requires you to do, but you dread doing. Dragging yourself out of bed, turning on the computer, typing in the word “Israel” with the slim hope that nothing evil, bad, horrible, untoward, Arab death related or land theft related will appear. You wait 2 seconds, and just like yesterday hundreds upon thousands of nasty depressing search results appear like clockwork. Can we just teleport Israel somewhere else in the universe? A place where they can be all alone, where the world can be safe from their aggression, bigotry, racism and war mongering? Maybe in some future world, if by then, Israel has not caused the total annihilation of this planet by succeeding in its “holy war” with America’s help against Arabs, that is. Until then, those of us with a human conscience will get up every day, just like yesterday and tomorrow and we will keep chipping away. So, following that depressing rant, here’s today’s insanity from the AP regarding Israel and nukes, which I will dutifully take apart:

Israel says Mideast not ready for nuclear arms ban

This is to thwart any US efforts to rid the region of nuclear weapons. Think about this for a minute. No matter what your views are on Nuclear Weapons, I believe Obama would like to rid the Middle East of all nukes. Obama wants them all to sign up to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty, which requires inspections by international teams. Now, why would Israel not want to do this? After all, Iran has signed the agreement and allows inspections. Not Israel. This is because only “Israel” actually has nukes in the region, they hide them, and they don’t allow inspection which is why they have NOT signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty like Iran did. Now, common sense dictates that if NO country in the Middle East had nukes, then the threat level in the entire region would go down quickly. Israel doesn’t really want that, it does not serve their purpose which is to anger Iran constantly so that they harden their stance, which in turn gives Israel all the reasons to attack it. They actually used this very same tactic in the run up to the Iranian elections, all the talk of attacking Iran; the mock war games they did, the big mobilazation of troops practicing bombing runs. All designed to ensure an Ahmadinejad victory, it worked. Israel does not want an even playing field in the Middle East; instead, they want the ability to wipe out their neighbours if they decide it suits their Zionist interests of expanding their land grab and controlling the entire region like one giant prison. Details and pictures leaked in 1986 to the Sunday Times of London by Mordechai Vanunu, a renegade former technician at Israel's Dimona nuclear plant, led foreign experts to conclude Israel has the world's sixth-largest stockpile of nuclear weapons. Vanunu was later kidnapped by Israeli intelligence agents in Rome, brought back to Israel to stand trial, and served 18 years in prison, including 11 in solitary confinement. Vanunu is now free, but is banned from leaving the country.

Israel's defense minister said in remarks published Thursday that the Middle East is too unruly for a region-wide nuclear arms ban, arguing that the Muslim world must first "behave like Western Europe." Israel is widely believed to possess nuclear arms, though it refuses to confirm or deny it. Barak made no mention of Israeli weapons in the interview, but pointedly said Israel would not agree to a nuclear weapons ban

Now, you really have to look at what this statement is meant to do. Firstly you have to note that it is meant to anger Iran (and other Muslim countries in the Region) by stating that “The Muslim World Must Behave Like Western Europe” In other words telling all Muslims they must become just like Westerners, when they are NOT Westerners, they are Muslims, a different culture. Secondly, he is using the same of Politics of Fear in his statement that Bush used on the American people and the world, as his statement is also directed at the West. When he refers to the region being “too unruly” for a “ban” on Nuclear weapons, in essence what he really means is twofold; ONE- that “Only Israel should be allowed to have Nukes and they will fight the Muslims for you and thus protect you” And TWO-the other subliminal message to the West is again the one where he claims Muslims must behave like Westerners. That is intended to underscore the difference in the Western culture and the Muslim culture; again this is the Politics of Fear being used here. He is attempting to instill fear into Westerners as they have a fundamental lack of knowledge of Muslims and Islam. Israel hopes to keep it that way! Next:

Defense Minister Ehud Barak also said Iran's nuclear program is a threat to world peace. His comments come ahead of a U.S.-sponsored world meeting later this month to discourage nuclear proliferation.

Now this statement is also directed to the West and to Europe. What he is telling them in effect is that Iran is the danger, not Israel. And that everyone should ignore the Nukes Israel already has, and focus only on Iran who does not have any yet. Again, it’s the politics of fear and deflection at work here. Oh how Israel loves to refer to that one statement made by Ahmadinejad, they are ever so greatful to him for giving them one tiny statement they can use over and over again, until the end of time, or the end of Iran. And he continues by repeating his threat to the Muslim world, that they MUST become “Westernized” see here

And Iran has attacked no one, can Israel say that? A good way to judge the future, is to look to the past. Presenting the New and Improved Israel

Naomi Klein has a great piece out today talking about the Toronto Film Festival, or, should I say the Israeli Film Festival being "held" in Toronto. I've written extensively on this blog regarding the millions and billions Israel spends on its "Hasbara" machine, and her article covers some of the fruits of this, it would appear Israel has spent its money well and twisted enough arms to literally end up having an entire festival in it's honour, or to the rest of the world it's horror. When I heard the Toronto International Film Festival was holding a celebratory “spotlight” on Tel Aviv I felt ashamed of my city. I thought immediately of Mona Al Shawa, a Palestinian women's-rights activist I met on a recent trip to Gaza. “We had more hope during the attacks,” she told me, “at least then we believed things would change.”

Ms. Al Shawa explained that while Israeli bombs rained down last December and January, Gazans were glued to their TVs. What they saw, in addition to the carnage, was a world rising up in outrage: global protests, as many as a hundred thousand on the streets of London, a group of Jewish women in Toronto occupying the Israeli Consulate. “People called it war crimes,” Ms. Al Shawa recalled. “We felt we were not alone in the world.” If Gazans could just survive them, it seemed these horrors would be the catalyst for change. (God help them, the world has failed Palestine again)

But today, Ms. Al Shawa said, that hope is a bitter memory. The international outrage has evaporated. Gaza has vanished from the news. (note-this is exactly WHY people must KEEP their blogs going, yes it's time consuming, but it's so very important. It's quite possible that Cameron Bailey, TIFF's co-director, believes it himself. He is wrong.

For more than a year, Israeli diplomats have been talking openly about their new strategy to counter growing global anger at Israel's defiance of international law. It's no longer enough, they argue, just to invoke Sderot every time someone raises Gaza. The task is also to change the subject to more pleasant areas: film, arts, gay rights – things that underline commonalities between Israel and places such as Paris and New York. After the Gaza attack, this strategy went into high gear.

Toronto got an early taste of all this. A year ago, Amir Gissin, Israeli consul-general in Toronto, explained that a new “Brand Israel” campaign would include, according to a report in the Canadian Jewish News, “a major Israeli presence at next year's Toronto International Film Festival, with numerous Israeli, Hollywood and Canadian entertainment luminaries on hand.” Mr. Gissin pledged that, “I'm confident everything we plan to do will happen.” Indeed it has. read it all here

Sweden Has What America Lost

Sweden becomes the real America, while America becomes Little Israel.

I was thinking this morning how so many smaller countries are just simply ignored by the world’s “Big Three.” You know the "Big Three" ones, England (America’s poodle), Israel (America’s captor and controller) and of course America (Captive by Israeli controlled Politicians and Lobby Groups) Given the worlds view of America falling under the category of “Anti-Muslim War Mongers” under the Bush Administration; America wanted a chance to redeem itself. You know it’s pretty hard to live up to that “American False Dream” of being the great supporter of “Democracy and Freedom” when you systematically strip that from Muslims in a fake war on “Terror.” And speaking of that “War on Terror” it always made me laugh because it is un-definable, what is “terror?” Well, to a Palestinian it’s hearing the hum of American supplied Israeli drones carrying White Phosphorous. But to America, its shadowy figures you can’t ever really see and who are not in America. I digress….

So America wanted to change its image and elected a snake oil salesman, the Messiah, the “one” the “Hope Man” but quickly the “hope” faded and we were left with a “Dope” instead. Just another Bush with a shiny new face. His Administration is even using the phrase "War On Terror" and he's fiddling with elections in other countries, Shame, Shame Shame........Is this what YOU hoped for???

So getting back to what America wants, e.g. to be respected in the world. Is it not ironic, that tiny little Sweden manages to get what America can’t buy or steal………..I'm talking about ”Respect” and just how did Sweden manage that? By having the courage to stand up for Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech, two of the founding principles of America, no less! Yes I’m referring to the latest charges of Israeli war crimes of organ harvesting in Palestine. Sweden’s FM just cancelled a trip to Israel, good for him for not being “bullied” by the King of Duplicity and war crimes, Israel.

So, listen up America, that’s how it’s done. Start standing up in support for those principles you claim to hold dear at the core of your founding fathers. Here’s the story:

Sweden's foreign minister abruptly called off a visit to Israel this week, an Israeli spokesman said Sunday, amid a feud over a Swedish newspaper article and a growing gulf between Israel and the international community over West Bank settlement construction.

Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has called off a trip to Israel planned for this Friday, according to Yigal Palmor, spokesman for Israel's Foreign Ministry. Palmor, who would not comment on a possible reason for the move, said Sweden informed Israel's embassy in Stockholm of the decision on Friday.

The Swedish decision came the same day Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu drew international condemnation for deciding to approve hundreds of new apartments in West Bank settlements in defiance of U.S., European and Palestinian calls for a total settlement freeze. Sweden holds the rotating European Union presidency.

But the cancellation also followed a diplomatic feud between Israel and Sweden over an unsubstantiated article in a Swedish tabloid that accused Israeli soldiers of harvesting organs from dead Palestinians and suggested a connection with an international organ trafficking ring run by Jews. Israeli officials condemned the article as anti-Semitic and reminiscent of medieval blood libels against Jews.(Yes, every thing critical of Israel is of course "Anti-Semitic" including war crimes)source

BOYCOTT OF ISRAEL VICTORIES

The international campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel has won several important victories in recent months. At this summer's trade union conferences in Britain, BDS activists have made significant progress.

While the campaign has been building momentum in unions globally since the 2005 Palestinian call for BDS, Israel's winter invasion of Gaza has spurned several trade unions and union federations in Britain and Ireland to pass motions more explicitly in favor of BDS. Several are calling for BDS for the first time.

Tom Hickey, a member of the University and College Union's (UCU) national executive committee, said, "The question of the moral rightness or wrongness [of BDS against Israel] has effectively already been decided."

Although the Trade Union Congress (the British union federation) has not yet passed a BDS motion, affiliated unions have begun taking up the Palestinian call themselves. So far this summer, the public sector union PCS, the UCU and the Fire Brigades Union have all passed strong motions explicitly calling for a general policy of boycott of Israeli goods, divestment from Israeli companies and government sanctions against the state.

Unions such as public sector union UNISON, the National Union of Teachers, USDAW and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have this summer passed softer motions calling for elements of BDS. These are usually calls for a boycott of settlement goods, or for the government to suspend arms sales to Israel. The CWU and others have condemned the infamous 13 January 2008 statement of the Israeli trade union federation in support of Israel's invasion of Gaza, which read: "The Histadrut recognizes the urgent need for the State of Israel to operate against the command and control centers of the organizational terror network ..."

In April, the independent Scottish Trade Union Congress (STUC) for the first time voted to endorse a report recommending "boycott and disinvest from Israeli companies" and a "call for sanctions against Israel" at their annual delegates' congress.

This decision was not arrived at overnight. STUC Assistant Secretary Mary Senior said, "it was very important we carefully considered the issue." A motion passed at the 2007 congress called on the leadership to "explore the merits of the calls" for BDS. In February-March of this year, Senior participated in an official STUC delegation to Palestine. It was this visit that formed the basis of the report recommending BDS.

The delegation met with Israeli and Palestinian officials, trade unionists and civil society groups in the occupied West Bank and in Israel. Almost all of the representatives were asked their opinion on BDS.

The report criticized the Israeli trade union federation, stating "At no time did Histadrut acknowledge that the West Bank is occupied" -- an occupation that delegation members witnessed first hand.

The report ultimately concluded "there was strong support for BDS amongst Palestinian trade unions and civic society."

Senior believes this report was vital, and that if the vote had been held two years earlier, it might not have passed. "It was important to have ... the consultation and the delegation. That helped to bring all of our affiliates on board," she said.

Not So Fast.......enter thug David Miliband:

Miliband said he would dispatch Ivan Lewis to dissuade union leaders from the boycott. Lewis is the new foreign office minister for the Middle East, and is also a member and former vice-chair of the lobbying group, Labor Friends of Israel.

Sorry David, the UNIONS are not buying it:

Union activists have been less than impressed. UCU's Blackwell stated that the British government "should do more to enforce human rights and to put pressure on Israel to comply with international law." The STUC replied the following day with its own statement, rejecting Miliband's remarks: "The UK Government is out of step with the views of workers on this matter." STUC's Senior added that the organization was "very surprised he would say that."

Martial Kurtz, Campaigns and Events Officer of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said, "We are not all that worried about Lewis or Miliband going around trying to stop this ... BDS is well on its way and their response smacks of desperation." source

A leading Arab educator in Israel has denounced the decision of Gideon Saar, the education minister, to require schools to study the Israeli national anthem.

Officials announced last week that they were sending out special “national anthem kits” to 8,000 schools, including those in the separate Arab education system, in time for the start of the new academic year in September.

The anthem, known as Ha-Tikva, or The Hope, has long been unpopular with Israel’s Arab minority because its lyrics refer only to a Jewish historical connection to the land.

Mr Saar’s initiative is widely seen among Israel’s 1.3 million Arab citizens as a further indication of the rising nationalistic tide sweeping policymakers.source

Obama Says "Reward The Criminals"

Here's Obamas brilliant plan to pay off Israel to stop building settlements. Of course, this will be after they finish building all the big ones and move their Zionist land grabbers in. Even though the settlements are Illegal, Obama's answer is to reward the criminals instead of making them do the right thing. Using this same logic, perhaps Obama will be rewarding Bernie Madoff soon with a "Get Out Of Jail Free Card" This is one of the inherent problems and mistakes in dealing with Israel. The "rewards" are never enough, each one is ferreted away and added to the heaping pile of past "rewards" and incentives. As such, they are never forced to adhere to the rules, never made to do the right thing and never held accountable to anyone including America. US asks Arab nations to reach out to Israel

The White House has asked at least seven Arab countries to consider what they might do in return for an Israeli pledge to freeze construction of settlements in the West Bank.

George Mitchell Says:

“We have made good progress,” said Mr. Mitchell emerging from a two-hour meeting with the Israeli leader. The two are reportedly close to a compromise deal in which America would sanction the completion of settlement construction in its final phases in return for Israeli assurances it would freeze all other building for an as yet undetermined amount of time.

Notice the last 4 words? "undetermined amount of time" what this REALLY means is that America wants Arab states to actually reward Israel for freezing settlement activity for an "undetermined" amount of time. This could be three weeks, three months or three seconds. Not so Fast Obama, you are not the Messiah, the Arabs so far seem too smart for this fairytale:

Regional powerhouse Saudi Arabia will not recognise Israel until it withdraws from occupied Arab land and makes committed steps toward a lasting two-state solution, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Foreign ministry spokesman Osama Nugali also called Israeli policy "schizophrenic" and said it was jeopardising attempts to revive Middle East peace talks aimed at creating an independent Palestinian state.

"Our position is well known. It is Israel that has to move seriously towards the peace process," Nugali said.

"As we all know, Israel is continuing to take unilateral measures by changing the geographic and demographic facts on the ground, by building settlements and expanding the existing ones," he told AFP.link

Israel Builds West Bank Tunnels~33 of them

- A Palestinian expert on settlements and land revealed that the Zionist entity plans to build a 33 tunnel in different sections throughout the West Bank, as a prelude to division of the West Bank into eight Palestinians cantons are not linked to each other than bypass streets or tunnels controlled by the occupation army.
A member of the General Committee for the Defense of the lands, Abdul Hadi Hantash, said that the plan was actually implemented in the town of Qalqilya, northern West Bank, and in villages west of Jerusalem, where the tunnel of “Baddo” town is the only outlet for a number of villages inhabited by about 50 thousand citizens.

In an interview on Aljazeera net, Hantash said that through the tunnels one soldier can close the entire region, indicating that the occupation implement the plan gradually without a formal announcement of this so as not to allow an opportunity for the Palestinians citizens to object to such plans.

The villages of the north and the west of Jerusalem are a living example for the plan unveiled by Hantash. The fate of around 50 thousand Palestinians subjects to a tunnel set up by the occupation as an outlet to these villages and linking them to the city of Ramallah.

And all the villages of Baddo, Al Qbibah, Beit Sourik, Beit Daqqo, Beit Ijza, Beit Anan, Katana, Beit Iksa, and the Prophet Samuel follow the city of Jerusalem, but because of the possession of the West Bank identity, the occupation authorities separated them from the city by the segregation wall. source

Israel's defense minister has decided to allow the transfer of some 1,000 Kalashnikov rifles from abroad to the Palestinian Authority, according to news reports.

The report, which was published in the Jerusalem Post on Monday, comes just hours before a meeting between Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and US envoy for the Middle East George Mitchell, who supports a strong PA.

The delivery of the automatic weapons was approved weeks ago, the newspaper reported, but was held up for what Israel's military called customary ballistic tests.

Earlier this year, Russia donated 50 BTR-70 armored vehicles to the PA that have also been held up, this time by Jordan, for security checks, according to the newspaper.

The Western-backed PA has of late come into escalating violence with militants associated with its rival Hamas in the West Bank, and has in recent months seized arms, explosives and millions of dollars in cash from Hamas, an official said on Sunday.

The official, security forces spokesperson Adnan Ad-Damiry, told Ma'an that its West Bank officers discovered "large amounts of explosives and bombs in the districts of Nablus, Hebron and Qalqiliya."

He also alleged that Hamas intended to use the weapons "heinously" against PA forces. link

That last line makes me laugh mi arse off TBH. Fatah is being funded and armed by the superpowers, and these asshats in Fatah want to say something about Hamas using bombs? Israel's Property and Building said on Thursday it was considering purchasing a stake in British Land's Broadgate office complex in London for 100 million pounds ($164 million).

British Land, the UK's second-largest property company by market value, said it has received preliminary approaches from potential buyers for a stake in Broadgate.

Gaza Siege To Be Lifted???

Could it really be possible? I was just reading the news online and tucked away inside another story on Mitchell's visit to Israel, I found this quite important little bit that seems to have been glossed over. It states that the Zionist government will discuss lifting restrictions this Wednesday, including export out of Gaza as well:

UN Chief Ban Ki-moon is reportedly considering fining Israel for its attacks on United Nation facilities during Tel Aviv's carnage on the Gaza Strip.

During the carnage, Israeli forces attacked three UN-run schools in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 45 civilians. Most of the victims had taken refuge in the buildings to escape the raining Israeli fire on Gaza.

Israeli soldiers also opened fire on a UN relief agency convoy in the Gaza Strip during a three-hour military ceasefire.

The USD 11 million fine was recommended by a committee elected to investigate the damage done by Israel to UN structures during Operation Cast Lead, Ban told a press conference in New York.

Secretary-General Ban's decision to fine Israel over damages to UN buildings come while the loss of over a thousand people in the Gaza Strip has remained uncompensated.

A fifteen-member mission headed by South African Jewish jurist Richard Goldstone entered the impoverished strip in early June to launch an investigation into Israel's alleged war crimes in the region.

Israel, however, made every effort to stall the UN probe. Goldstone's delegation was repeatedly denied visa's into the Gaza Strip in a move labeled as "disappointing" by the UN official.

Israel has refused to cooperate with any systematic investigations. It has rejected the International Criminal Court (ICC) and is not cooperating the United Nations Human Rights Council fact-finding mission to Gaza. source

Thousands of settlers to attack Palestinians near Salfit

Agencies - Dozens of Zionist military troops set up camp at the southern entrance of the illegal Ariel settlement in anticipation of the arrival of thousands of settlers who will pray at ancient shrines in the area.

Soldiers set up road barriers and blocked all but local residents from using the roads near the settlement. Vehicles were also being detained and identity cards checked in an effort to provide “security for settlers.”

Area native Amjad Na’im Abu Yaqub said he was stopped on the way home near the southern access road to Ariel. As he was detained troops told him a curfew will be impose in the nearby villages starting at ten o’clock at night.

Two months ago more than 7,000 Zionist settlers descended on the area under similar circumstances. The settlers ended up rioting in the villages, breaking glass and damaging grave sites in the village cemetery.
