A senior Islamic Revolution Guards Corps commander says Israeli claims of intercepting a ship carrying Iranian-made weapons intend to divert attention from a UN report detailing Israeli war crimes in Gaza.

In remarks that were later proven to be false, Israeli military sources said Tuesday they found a large cache of Iranian-made arms when they stormed a vessel near Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea.

They claimed that the ship was heading for the Hezbollah resistance movement, either in Lebanon or Syria.

Yadollah Javani, the Director of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), said the allegations were part of the Israeli regime's "poisonous media campaign".

"These accusations are nothing but an Israeli ruse to deflect international attention from the Goldstone report as they move closer to the war crimes tribunal [at the International Criminal Court (ICC)]," said Brigadier General Javani.

"Israeli officials have a knack of leveling baseless accusations against others when they are in serious trouble," he added.

Syrian officials have rejected Israeli accusations over the cargo seizure. "The ship was not carrying Iranian-made weaponry for Syria or Lebanon, but was in fact carrying Syrian-made items for consumption in Iran," said Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem on Wednesday.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri also dismissed the charges, questioning why the Israelis had failed to detain the crew, if the ship was supposedly carrying the huge arms cargo.

Berri said that while Hezbollah has the right to obtain arms from “anywhere in the world,” it is pretty obvious that Israel made the claims to fudge the issue of its war crimes in Gaza. link

Israeli settlers residing in illegal outposts in the heart of Hebron obstructed the work of Palestinian fire fighters on Wednesday night, as crews attempted to access a burning building owned by a Palestinian family.

Firefighter Jamal Qawasmeh said the station received a call regarding a fire in the Bani Dar neighborhood in the old city of Hebron. "We coordinated with the Israeli side so the servicemen and our vehicle could access the area," he explained. Despite the coordination, however, “a group of settlers attacked fire fighting personnel" and blocked the access of the vehicle to the street where the fire was.

"After more than half an hour the soldiers at the scene intervened to keep the settlers away from the fire fighting vehicle” and allowed it to pass, he said. Qawasmeh said it was not the first time fire fighters have been unable to reach homes and emergencies in the Old City. Between the road blocks, barriers and metal detectors, he said, access to some areas was impossible even without angry settlers barring the way. source

Obama's BIG Victory TBA

We can all expect the great media hype to being tomorrow, or later today. Israel will "give" a "9 month freeze" on it's illegal settlements, so Obama can create the illusion of a victory in the talks today. So, let's get this straight. A career criminal, who has broken the law, and continues to break the law, tells the Policeman that if he is not arrested and charged for his crimes he will "stop committing them for 9 months" in exchange. So, how well would that defense work for the next American serial killer. That's the logic here, or lack of logic. The world is meant to praise the criminal because he agrees to stop (in the middle of his crimes) In effect Israel is not even making their crimes "right" in other words they are currently in mid-crime, as the illegal settlements are standing proud all over Palestinian land filled with illegal cockroach settlers. Who, under this "big Obama victory" will still be living illegally like squatters on someone elses land. This is no "victory" it's a disgrace and an insult to intelligent people all over the world.

Israel has reportedly agreed to freeze West Bank settlement activity for up to 9 months in exchange for normalizing relations with some North African and Gulf Arab states, according to a Washington Times exclusive published on Tuesday.

The report, quoting Israeli officials and an Israeli specialist familiar with the government's policy, comes hours before a tripartite meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. link

STOCKHOLM — Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has rejected Israeli calls for official condemnation of a Swedish newspaper article about organ harvesting, saying freedom of expression is a cornerstone of democracy.

Bildt said in a blog posted late Thursday that he would not condemn an article in the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet that suggested Israeli troops had harvested the organs of dead Palestinians. He said freedom of expression is part of the Swedish constitution.

"Freedom of expression and press freedom are very strong in our constitution by tradition. And that strong protection has served our democracy and our country well," Bildt wrote. "If I were engaged in editing all strange debate contributions in different media I probably wouldn't have time to do much else."

Bildt said he understood why the article stirred strong emotions in Israel, but said basic values in society are best protected by free discussion.AP
