Megrahi Release~Scotland Stands Up To America

Or, America attempts to meddle in another country again PART 1

Three cheers for the Scottish Nationalists for standing up the American bullying over the release of Mr Megrahi.

Before I get into America’s meltdown, I want to say there are some “funny” things about this situation. Firstly it is being reported that the release comes due to a deal for oil between Brown and Muammar Gaddafi, this may true, and maybe not. What has been revealed is that a letter was sent to Scotland outlining Englands legal standpoint should a release be approved. For those who do not understand Scotland, whilst they are part of the UK, they have their own government and their own laws.

Scotland has jurisdiction because the Pan Am jet was blown up over Scotland on Dec. 21, 1988, killing 259 people on board -- most of them Americans -- and 11 people on the ground. Scotland, which is part of the United Kingdom but has its own devolved powers, including its own parliament and a separate legal system,

Scotland's first minister, Alex Salmond, who effectively functions as a prime minister in the country of five million people, rejected Mueller's accusations, saying Scotland had done what it had to do according to its own legal system.

"We have to consider a compassionate release application, not sought by us but made by Mr Megrahi, in terms of Scots law. We have to consider these incredibly difficult decisions and make a decision without fear or favour on the basis of the Scottish legal system," he said. link

This letter from Brown, served to confirm that England had no jurisdiction over any Scottish decision, should one be made. Additionally, Brown sent a letter to Muammar Gaddafi asking the any release be “low key.” However, what Americans may have no idea of, is that many in the UK do not believe Megrahi was guilty, and firmly believe there is much more to this than meets the eye. So, his release will conveniently ensure that the truth will never come out in any appeals trial, which was cancelled just before his release. Can you say Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???? And then there is THIS little piece of information that possibly points to a fiddle in the first trial.

Aside from this, the important thing to point out is the it was Scotland’s legal system that allowed this decision and as Scotland is a democracy with it’s own legal system, then the US should respect that. But, as usual, we see the so called “Greatest Democracy” in the world, once again attempting to meddle in the affairs of another country SURPRISE!

So we have seen threats and intimidation from the Whitehouse, the US Military, the FBI, the Secretary of State and various asshat congressmen and Senators. Speaking of such, Zionist Joe Lieberman has called for an independent investigation into Scotland's decision to free Megrahi. Someone should inform him that he and his Zionist pals have no control over Scotland. Perhaps he and his pals should stick to what they do best, controlling American politicians. Because they will get nowhere with the proud Scots.

Just like America has no understanding of the Middle East, they have no understanding of the Scottish people. Just like Palestine, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon have had to fend off the deadly duo of Zionist Israel and their biggest backer, the USA. And much like Ireland, Scotland had hundreds of years fighting for it’s freedom and independence as well.And they are not about to give that up to corrupt Zionist controlled Americans. Perhaps America should look in the mirror, but like Israel, America will have no soul searching.

This morning I listened to a talk show where a great many Scottish people sent in text messages and phoned in live to support their government’s decision. Even some who were not too thrilled at the release of Megrahi, were still in support of the decision due to it being Scottish law and were outraged at America’s bullying attempts to control their country. Here are a few I found online:

At last there is a British politician who does not simply do what he is told by the United States. The last time that happened was when Harold Wilson refused to send British forces to Vietnam 40 years ago.

The Justice Secretary did not bow under the intense emotional pressure exerted by the US attorney general Eric Holder, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and even President Barack Obama himself, all of whom should have known better than to interfere in the due legal processes of another nation. Americans like to present their country as devoutly Christian, but that is not always reflected in their ideas of justice and compassion.

And

In reviewing the application for the compassionate release of the alleged Lockerbie bomber Megrahi, Kenny MacAskill was faced with the choice between doing what was easy and what is right. Perhaps incredibly for a politician, he chose the latter. Whatever the political fallout from this decision, Mr MacAskill has changed his place in history from a footnote as a member of the first SNP cabinet to one of the most courageous politicians Scotland has produced.

What is important now is that we hold a public inquiry to establish the truth of what happened on that dreadful day. Many, particularly across the Atlantic, have understandably chosen the easy option of hating Megrahi, but that ultimately would be a false solace should he be proved innocent, as I suspect is the case.Scotland risked being known as the country that let an innocent man die in prison for the sake of misplaced revenge. Thanks to Mr MacAskill, we have avoided this. Even in the unlikely event it turns out that Megrahi is, in fact, guilty, we have still shown, in a demonstration of mercy, that we are better than he is.

And

The release of Megrahi was a laudable, humane act on the part if Kenny MacAskill and the Scottish Government. Scotland did not give in to the pressures or bullying from US and other quarters. It stood by its well-known principles of compassion and tolerance and freed a man who had not long to live and, more importantly, who was convicted on doubtful evidence, as now seems clear. I feel proud of Scotland. God bless Scotland.

And

Kenny MacAskill's decision to temper justice with mercy highlights the American inclination to equate justice with vengeance. There is a significant gap between Scottish and American values, and this decision shows there is a more moral way of behaving than giving in to the lynch mob baying for blood.

There is also the quiet satisfaction that Scotland, a small country, was able to stand up to the bully on the block and make its own decision according to its own laws.

AND (you can't fool the Scots):

The one disappointment is that the many unanswered questions about the case will not now be addressed, despite the distinct possibility that Megrahi may have been wrongly convicted on very flimsy circumstantial evidence and withheld information. Robert Black ("This shameful miscarriage has gravely sullied the Scottish criminal justice system", The Herald, August 21) is correct to state that no Scottish jury, properly charged, would have been convinced beyond reasonable doubt by such evidence, and would not have convicted Mr Megrahi.

However, the demands of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the US senators who wrote to the Justice Secretary were disingenuous. Neither the US nor the UK government has made any progress in bringing to justice those who ordered or planned the bringing down of Pan Am flight 103 because further investigations and arrests would be both politically and economically inconvenient. That is why there will be no public inquiry. Both the British and American governments are content to allow Megrahi to carry the blame. We are left with the suspicion that crocodile tears have been shed by the Americans who, as they are inclined to do, protest far too much.

As Libya opens up its oilfields to western trade, American corporations will be the first in there.

Like I said, you can't fool the Scots.....or the Irish ;-)

Muslim shops in Glasgow, Scotland have been targetted with threats, petrol bombs and arson attacks. Que the silence and lack of outrage....Outside of Israel, Zionist spend the vast majority of their time either attempting to game the system in favour of Israel, or worse, trying to pass laws and legislation that restrict any criticizm of Israel. They forever play the "never ending victim card" and their well organised and well funded groups rally to the call to arms. So, here's my question today; Where's the outrage for this racist attack?

Fire attack on Islamic charity

Two Glaswegians have appeared in court charged in connection with a fire at Islamic Relief’s charity headquarters in Glasgow.

Mark Bining, 34, and Stuart Rose, 25, were in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court on July 9 on one charge of wilful fire-raising. Neither made a plea or declaration and were released on bail.

The fire broke out at the shop in Albert Drive, Pollokshields, in the early hours of July 2. The attack follows a series of threats on the Charity since its involvement in helping the relief effort in Gaza during the Israeli and Palestinian conflict.

A charity worker was working inside the building when he smelt smoke. He called the police and the fire department. The blaze was put out and review of the CCTV footage showed two suspects.

Head of Islamic Relief Scotland, Habib Malik, told The Muslim News he did not wish to speculate about the motives until after the court case, however he confirmed that he “received a couple of anonymous phone calls during our Gaza appeal, and they said they’d bomb the centre.

“The attack has not damaged community cohesion, if anything it’s strengthened it. We’ve had members of the community coming in and voicing their concern and disgust.”
The fire has resulted in £80,000 worth of damage on the building of the shop itself and further costs due to the destruction of stock within

Scottish parliamentarians witness Israeli devastation in Gaza

The convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s cross-party group on Palestine has returned from a mercy trip to Gaza speaking of the horrendous devastation wreaked during Israel’s latest massacre of more than 1,400 Palestinians. “The devastation in Gaza is absolutely shocking. The extent of the destruction of Gaza families and homes is unbelievable,” Labour member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) Pauline McNeill said. “Every single person we met pleaded with us to do what we could to lift the Israeli siege on their country,” she said.

The Labour MSP from Glasgow Kelvin led a delegation to Gaza to deliver the first trenche of medical aid from Scotland after spending 14 days of negotiations with Egyptian Authorities to open Rafeh crossing. She also visited Lebanon in the aftermath of Israel’s latest invasion in 2006. “The fact that we have seen some of the devastation on our TV screens is the only thing that prepares you for the entry into the north of Gaza where the Israeli defence forces aimed the majority of their fire power. Thousands of family homes were raised to the ground by the constant bombing,” said McNeill, who is Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Culture Europe and Constitutional Affairs in the Scottish Parliament.

She told The Muslim News that they spent hours talking to families just sitting in their tents donated by the Rotary Club with nothing to do. “Some of the children were reading their lessons. As you go around speaking everyone joins in as they want you to hear their stories. We saw one family of 8 children in one small tent. There were 90 families in this camp with only 30 tents. There is no sanitation and so they are all at risk of disease,” she said.

The Scottish delegation included members of Glasgow Central Mosque, Sid Khan, Shalim Mohammed and Shamim Ahmed, who helped collect ten of thousands of pounds in an emergency appeal for aid that was largely spent on desperately needed medical supplies. A second aid consignment of Scottish aid led by Denis Rutovitz, Chair of Edinburgh Direct Aid (EDA), also made its way towards Gaza with the assistance of the Egyptian Red Crescent after being flown to Cairo.
McNeill spoke of the scant aid getting through, including basic food or rice and bean arriving, while they were there. “The UNWRA tent across the way is only for show as they get no assistance from UNWRA as the Palestinians do not have refugee status. These Palestinians are internally displaced persons and it is shocking to learn they don’t benefit directly from the international efforts. The Government have given families $5000 but what can you do with that,” she said.

The vivid picture she painted was of temporary shelters being created on the rubble of the destroyed homes. “We were told of a woman who sleeps with her children in her brother’s home but during the day she lives on the streets so as not to intrude on her brother’s life. We were shown pictures of dead children buried under the rubble of the collapsed buildings; pictures of screaming children hurt and burned in the blasts,” the MSP said. “Many injured people do not get the rehabilitation assistance they need as they are short of walking sticks, wheel chairs and any type of basic medical equipment that any health service needs to attend to wounded people.”

“Most people think that Gaza borders are open after the war and that aid is flooding in; it is not. The opening of the crossings is sporadic and the aid is not enough. There is a desperate need for drugs for cancer and heart diseases,” McNeill said. She said the delegation met with Minister of Health, Dr Basem, who said that many countries are donating but not the right kind of aid. “There is no real co-ordination of their needs. He confirms that aid is stockpiling outside Gaza and it is not free flowing. The Siege is as bad as ever – hundreds have died waiting to get out of Gaza to hospitals outside the strip,” she said.

Scottish aid being flown in amounts to some seven tonnes of medicines such as antibiotics, vitamins and food supplements for children and expectant mothers. Other items include sutures, syringes and needles, surgical gloves, dressings and many different types of medical and surgical consumables. Almost all are intended for primary care centres and will be donated to the Palestine Medical Relief Society’s clinics.

“We visited about 6 orphanages where the representatives of Scotland’s largest Mosque, Glasgow Central Mosque, gifted money to the children and the families who helped to look after them. Many would not accept the gift as they said it was enough that we had come and that they wanted to preserve their dignity,” McNeill said. “We had gone to Gaza to show the support for the people and to ensure Scotland was seen as part of the collective efforts.”

McNeill, who has been an MSP since 1997, has been involved in seeking justice for the Palestinians since her student days. She was a strident opponent of the Iraq war and has also spoken out against US and Israeli threats against Iran.

“The siege on Gaza must be lifted. Not a single brick has been replaced after the war.
"No reconstruction work has started. The rubble has not even been cleared. If we forget about Gaza perhaps we may begin to see rocket firing again as that tends to get the world’s attention,” she said.

“Palestinians will tell you themselves that it is a political solution which is needed and not an aid strategy. Whilst we are waiting on that dream we cannot stand for any blockage of the international efforts to bring humanitarian assistance,” said the MSP, who is also helping to coordinate a 100 truck convoy, dubbed the European Convoy of Hope link

Now the council in Edinburgh will force protest organizers who want to demonstrate against the Gaza holocaust by Israel, will have to file a paper and wait an entire month! I smell the Zionist lobby at work in Scotland. Protest organizers say they will ignore the rule. I must say this is stupid for Scotland to enforce this, reason being, their courts will fill up with cases where protesters have ignored this insane rule and this will just bring more attention to the protesters cause, e.g. Gaza. ORGANISERS of protests in Edinburgh are set to be forced to give a month's notice to city officials, putting spontaneous events such as this year's major demonstration against the war in Gaza under threat.

Council officials have been turning a blind eye to new laws which came into force in 2007 asking rally organisers to give 28 instead of seven days' notice for their events.

But now city leaders have indicated that they are going to start enforcing the rules.

Between April 2007 and March last year a total of 16 events went ahead without organisers having given the full 28 days' notice.

City leaders today said they, along with the police, had adopted a "softly, softly" approach to the new legislation but added this was now likely to change.

Opposition politicians and rally organisers today hit out at the 28-day rule, warning that many protest groups will simply ignore it.

The former socialist MSP and organiser of the city's annual May Day rally, Colin Fox, said: "The problem I have with the 28-day rule is that it only suits the bureaucrats who invented it.

"A lot of these marches and rallies are organised in response to local or world events, something which you can't give a month's notice for. You can't just do these things at the drop of a hat but I think what will happen is that people will simply ignore the 28-day rule.

"It is just unacceptable to say that the people who wanted to protest about the bombing in Gaza in January would have to wait a month to do this."

There are typically around 120 marches or rallies held in the Capital each year, ranging from Orange Walks to trade union marches.

Leith councillor Gordon Munro added: "The very nature of some rallies and marches is that they are spontaneous, reacting to wider events.

One of the biggest rallies through Edinburgh was in 2005 when an estimated 250,000 people took to the streets to try to force G8 leaders to tackle world poverty, while the last major rally in the city was in January for the 4000-strong protest against the conflict in Gaza.

The march finished at the US consulate on Regent Terrace where shoes and paint bombs were thrown at diplomatic offices.

"The local authority and the police are due to review this approach and the local procedure in general. It is likely that we will move towards enforcing the 28-day notice period in all but urgent cases

Tescos has set up a boycott helpline, according to the Jewish Chronicle: Pro-Israel groups have attacked Tesco for setting up a customer helpline for those considering boycotting Israeli goods. Tesco says it provided the service in expectation of calls questioning its stocking of products from Israel and the West Bank.

Callers selecting the general information option on its customer helpline hear the recorded message: “If you are ringing regarding Israeli goods, please press one.” They are then connected to specially-trained call centre staff.(ROTFLMAO)
