What do 9-11 and the Holocaust have in common? I’ll tell you; after both atrocities, the victims did not use the lessons learned to go out into the world and change it for the better. Instead, they used their “victim-hood” status to run roughshod over lesser people and behave as worldwide thugs, invading countries and oppressing people around the globe and even in their own back yards. You’d think that all that goodwill towards the Jews after World War 2 and the Americans after 9-11 wouldn’t have been squandered, but it was.

Let’s take the Jews for example, it could have ALL been different for them today. They could have been loved worldwide instead of loathed as the 21st century Nazi’s and Neanderthal oppressors of an apartheid statelet. They could have been shining examples of good and decency, around the world. Just imagine this; what if they had decided to take what happened to them, and use it as a force of good, to say loudly and clearly that genocide would never happen to them OR anyone else in this world.

That no one should ever have to suffer like they did. And to then go out into the world and be the champion of other victims as a worldwide advocate to all victims of suffering and oppression. Be a voice for the oppressed, fight for the rights of others who are also disadvantaged. They could have become the worldwide spokespeople for the oppressed in this world. They could have been respected and loved, instead of feared and not trusted. The word “Jew” would have conjured up goodness, caring, empathy, hope, a Ghandi-esque persona of love for the world's people. And with the huge amounts of money they have raised over the years, they could have used that to stamp out racism and oppression in the world, for ALL the worlds people. Ensuring everyone was treated with respect, dignity and equality, to ensure no one ever suffered under a genocidal regime hell bent on stamping out an entire race of people. “Never Again” would have applied to all of us…….

They could have stood up against apartheid regimes like in South Africa, instead of actually funding and arming the white South African oppressors, they could have become shining beacons of good in this world. So that today the majority of the worlds population would not see them as untrustworthy phoney perpetual victims, dishonest vultures, land grabbers, political bribing, political spying, illegal organ selling, government controlling, illegal land grabbing, hidden nuclear weapons, UN resolution breaking, war mongering people who live and promote openly an apartheid state and are DAMN proud of it! They could have been “Heros” instead of “Zeros” What a different world we would have today, if only. But instead they have become the exact evil they once fought against.

There have been so many similarities between what the Nazi’s did to the Jews and what the Jews are now doing to the Palestinians. But I just came across yet another one worth mentioning simply due to the irony of the whole thing. In Germany, a 95 year old former Olympic athlete who was banned from competition by the Nazi’s has now been “recognized.” And when interviewed about the “bad ole days” she said this:

So we have a Jewish athlete unable to train because she is discriminated against by an evil nazi state, made to live as a 2nd class citizen in her own country of Germany. Unable to pursue her training or compete in the sporting events she dreamed of. Now flash forward from World War 2 to November 2009 shall we? And let us see if the Jews learned anything from how she was once treated:

link Work on a football stadium being built in the West Bank, and financed by the international football federation FIFA, has been stopped.

The Israeli government says the almost-completed stadium may have to be demolished, as the correct permission had not been issued for its construction. This is despite a formal approval of the constuction of the stadium, issued by the Israeli (NAZI)military in 1981.

The Palestinian stadium is a project developed to bring some hope to the impoverished and besieged West Bank population, particularly younger generations. Its development is a joint effort by FIFA and several governments including France and Germany.

Construction of the stadium began more than 3 years ago. The final stage, the erection of the stands, began in February this year. The stadium is just three weeks from completion.

Israel has long been accused of obstructing Palestinians from representation and participation in international sports, which critics say is to deny Palestinian national identity. (It is a worldwide travesty for the Jews to be denied the chance to compete and play sports in World War II, but today tehy do this to Palestinians and see nothing wrong with it)

In March 2006 Israel bombed the Palestine Football Stadium in Gaza, leaving a massive crater in the middle of the pitch. The FIFA stepped in and paid for the cost of restoring it. "In the world of today, which is disrupted by long-lasting disputes and violence, football is one of the very few universal tools mankind can use to bridge gaps between nations and peoples, and to symbolise what unites our planet over what divides it. FIFA's role is not to reprimand, but to help create bonds and ensure that the young people of the region have hope and the possibility to enjoy the school of life that football represents," FIFA President Sepp Blatter said at the time.

In 2004 Israel tried to prevent the Palestinian football team from participating in the the (FIFA) World Cup qualifiers, by stopping several members of the team from leaving Gaza.

So, no lessons learned other than today Israel enjoys playing the 21st century Nazi’s to the Palestinians who have become the 21st century Jews. It could have all been different, but Israel chose another path, and today, we are ALL paying for it...........

Yesterday I had to visit the town of Derry, in the North of Ireland. Derry is known for some of the most fierce fighting for Irish Freedom in the North. In fact, there is an area in Creggan called "The Gaza Strip" how's that for similarity:) Derry's Bogside was one of the few "No Go" areas for the British Army, if they ventured to come in, they'd have a tough fight on their hands. As I drove past the Bloody Sunday Monument, I began thinking about Ireland, England, Palestine and Israel. It was not that long ago that people here were living with British soldiers on our streets, murdering people, shooting our children and interning our people without trial or charge. And, back then, America, in the form of President Ronald Reagan, supported these actions by the British Government of Margaret Thatcher and her British troops, even though the American public did not. Sound familiar? Then, years later came President Bill Clinton, who broke the mold and stood up to Britain. It always takes entrenched Governments who are in bed with oppressive and aggressive countries much longer to catch up with what their own public are calling for.

So flash forward 30 years and things have changed massively. And this brings me to Israel. There is always a defining moment in time. A moment that changes everything. And it is not always about the amount of killing, or the scale of killing, but rather it is about bringing the worlds' focus onto a situation that has been in existence, perhaps for many years, but was lost in the dark. It is strange thing that happens when the world witnesses something, becomes outraged and then demands change. For Ireland it was Bloody Sunday, for South Africa it was the killing of Steve Biko, and for Israel it is Gaza. Israel Slit Its Wrists by Invading Gaza in 2009, the war criminals and the State of Israel are bleeding to death slowly. Time is on our side. Here’s why:

Yesterday a 90 year old German man was charged with murdering Jews during World War II. Given that today is November 2009, and this man committed his crimes all those years ago, and yet at age 90 has now been convicted. So that set me thinking about Israel and all of their War Criminals (a massive list!) and what time can accomplish as the world changes. So, for now, many of our own governments are running defense and interference for Israel’s actions. We know they do this because of the great control Israel has over our Politicians using their hundreds of well funded lobby groups in every important country worldwide. We know that our Politicians do not represent the people who elected them, but rather they represent a foreign power instead. We know this, and this too, will change, as a new generation rises up.

Possibly the greatest mistake Israel ever made was to openly inflict mass genocide on the population of Gaza. They did so right before the eyes of the world’s population. A new generation has been born, they are teenagers or 20 somethings now and their very first introduction to the Rogue State of Israel was to witness the Gaza holocaust. Mothers and Fathers around the world are talking about it; their children are listening and witnessing for themselves, viewing countless you tube videos that will forever bear witness to the crimes. Illustrating in real time the carnage committed onto a civilian population by the 4th largest army in the world.

This new generation is learning the ropes, they are seeing the control Israel has over our politicians and governments. But, somewhere, right now, is a young person in each of our own countries, who has conviction, strength and is willing to play the waiting game. One day this person will go into politics, they will play the game, whatever it may be at that time, in order to get to the top. But they will have the knowledge of what Israel truly is. This person will hunger to rid their country of a foreign control, this person will one day reach the top and he, or she, will not be alone. For many others will do the same, they will be our Congressmen, Senators, MP’s and Assembly Members, and they will remember. Each time someone from the Israeli lobby arm twists them on the way up, they will remember. And when they all reach the top together, they will no longer bow to Israel or its Lobby and threats. There will be strength in their numbers. Hold that thought and keep reading.

So just as the 90 year old German man was only just convicted now for his war crimes against Jews in World War II, remember this: The Israeli war criminals have many more years of life left in them, those in their fifties have at least 30 years left to worry, whilst those in their 20’s and 30’s have between 50 to 60 years left to worry in fear, maybe more. The times are changing, thanks to Israel’s own voracious and rampant hunger to kill and ethnically cleanse Palestinians, to take over the middle east, to attack its neighbors again and again and to control our Governments so that they act against the will of the people they represent. It is the future Israel should fear, for it is the future generation that will ensure the criminals are charged and convicted for the crimes that the future generation are witnessing NOW.

So a message to all those who committed war crimes, you have years to live, and time is on our side. Given the tide has turned against Israel, what will the world be like 30-60 years from now? And will you find yourself standing in court at the ripe old age of 90 being charged with the crimes you cheerfully committed in your 20’s and 30’s. This is your future, and you have 30-60 years to live in fear and ponder that fate.

The clock is ticking down for Israel, time is on our side. And I will end with a quote from one of our most famous Irish Patriots, this holds true for all of us who want to see Palestine free and to take its place among the nations of the world. The last line says it all. It is what I was referring to earlier, for it’s the next generation Israel should fear, the generation that was introduced to Israel via the Gaza Genocide, they will remember:

"Believe that we too love freedom and desire it. To us it is more desirable than anything in the world. If you strike us down now, we shall rise again and renew the fight. You cannot conquer Ireland; you cannot extinguish the Irish passion for freedom; if our deed has not been sufficient to win freedom then our children will win it with a better deed."

The Israeli military said on Tuesday morning that it detained six Palestinians from their homes in the West Bank overnight.

In a statement the army said the “suspects” were seized from the Qalqiliya area and from the village of Bil’in, west of Ramallah, which is known for its weekly nonviolent demonstration against Israel’s separation wall.

Morning Comedy~Israeli Bar Bans Soldiers

An Anarchist bar in Tel Aviv has banned Israeli Solders from entering wearing their uniforms and carrying their weapons. And this has caused "Zionist Feathers" to be ruffled in a comedic fashion. UK pro-Zionist journalist Seth Friedman who writes for the Guardian has used his column to publish his public meltdown. Be sure to take the link at the end, to read the entire article and also take a gander at the comments section for some good laughs written by the British public who put him in his place quite nicely LOL.

It's one thing for a bar or club to employ a dress code for sartorial reasons, quite another to exclude law-abiding citizens simply because of their adherence to civic duty. In a country such as Israel, where national service is compulsory, to ban soldiers in uniform from entering a pub is to tread on shaky ground. Yet that is what the owners of the Rogatka bar in Tel Aviv have decided upon, tarring all IDF personnel with the same dismissive brush.

To declare anyone decked out in olive-green uniform as persona non grata is a step too far, regardless of the justifications offered by the anarchist collective running the bar. The response given by one of the proprietors, Adi Vinter, is that "We can't hold views against discrimination and oppression, while at the same time supporting the infrastructure that exploits human beings and other animals". The sentiment may be admirable, but to extrapolate it into a ban on uniformed soldiers makes little sense: first because – according to Vinter's own logic – she and her friends shouldn't be doing business inside Israel at all.

simply refusing to allow uniforms or weapons on the premises allows the owners and regulars to drink, and discuss politics, in an entirely homogenous and holier-than-thou atmosphere. According to Ha'aretz, "the founders ... hope it will bring together leftwing activists, environmentalists, and other fellow travellers, under the banner of cheap drinks and fair trade products". In order to protect their own interests and save themselves from having to encounter people who might hold differing opinions to theirs, they believe in a policy of denying entry on the most insincere grounds.

The Rogatka bar isn't a primary school; IDF employees aren't by definition fascists – so the owners shouldn't be assuming the mantle of Ed Balls and his advisers. While there would of course be grounds for kicking out anyone walking in with a swastika tattoo, a Kach fist t-shirt or a Hamas headscarf, to imply that every member of the IDF is a de facto racist is completely unacceptable.

In Jaffa, where tensions often run high between soldiers and locals, the Arab-owned restaurants still teem with uniformed IDF staff at all hours of the day, the proprietors recognising that not all soldiers are evil, and that they should therefore be judged on an individual basis. The owners of Rogatka could learn a great deal from such an approach, rather than loftily applying their illogical blanket ban to their own establishment.link

Israel begins the construction of new settlements inside the Palestinian territories in defiance of preconditions for resuming peace talks in the region.

"The works aim to build 60 housing units for Orthodox religious Jewish families right next to the Palestinian neighborhood of Arab al-Sawahra," the anti-settlement Peace Now spokeswoman, Hagit Ofran, told AFP on Monday.

The construction which was approved in 2000 "began two months ago as part of development of East Talpiot," she added.

The area is one of a dozen illegal settlements that Israel has built in east Jerusalem (al-Quds). Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War, declaring the city its "eternal, undivided capital."

More than 285,000 Israelis currently live in the Jewish settlements which are considered as illegal by the international community.

"They aim to complete a belt of Jewish neighborhoods that will surround east Jerusalem and we are against this project, which is harming the hopes for peace," said Ofran.

The report came as acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas ruled out the possibility of peace talks without an Israeli settlement freeze.

Denouncing the new settlement activity, Abbas said that Israel is defined by the borders it maintained before the 1967 Middle East War, "not one centimeter more."

He said the issue was "extensively discussed" during the November 2007 international conference in Annapolis, Ynet reported.

Abbas further reiterated that a complete halt in the construction of settlements is a prerequisite for resuming talks source

Residents from Haggay settlement near the city of al-Khalil gunned down the yet unidentified Palestinian man on Friday morning after patrolling settlers caught sight of him walking outside an Israeli-military secured area.

Two settlers reportedly approached the man and struggled with him, prompting the Palestinian to produce a knife in self defense.

The Israeli news network Yedioth Ahronoth quoted a settlement official as explaining that one of the settlers "had a stoppage in his gun," and thus was unable to shoot the Palestinian, so "the other man neutralized the terrorist and killed him."

The body of the Palestinian man has been handed over to Palestinian medics.

Nearly 280,000 Israelis live in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and another 180,000 Israelis live in east Jerusalem (al-Quds) -- which was captured and later annexed by Israel following the 1967 Six-Day War.

Despite international oppositions against the Israeli construction activity in east Jerusalem -- which houses 2.3 million Palestinians -- and elsewhere in the occupied West Bank, Israel continues to force more Palestinians out of their homes to expand its settlements.

When the former Israeli government of Ehud Olmert entered into negotiations with acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas aimed at reaching a two-state solution, it vowed to halt the settlements activities in east Jerusalem.

However, hawkish Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman poured cold water on heated peace talks by ruling out the creation of a Palestinian state, shortly after assuming office.

Lieberman, who described the 2007 agreement for a two-state peace process reached in Annapolis as "valueless", has also rebuffed calls for freezing settlement activities in the Palestinian territories, saying Israeli concessions have only brought more violence. link

Israel demands recognition

Israel's prime minister has told a visiting US envoy that the Palestinians must recognise Israel as a "Jewish state" before it will discuss establishing an independent Palestinian state.

Benyamin Netanyahu made the remarks as he met George Mitchell, the US special envoy for the Middle East, in Tel Aviv on Thursday.

"Israel expects the Palestinians to first recognise Israel as a Jewish state before talking about two states for two peoples," a senior official in Netanyahu's office quoted the new prime minister as saying.

Earlier, after meeting Avigdor Lieberman, the Israeli foreign minister, Mitchell had repeated Washington's support for a Palestinian state.

"I reiterated to the foreign minister that US policy favours, with respect to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a two-state solution which will have a Palestinian state living in peace alongside the Jewish state of Israel," he said.

"We look forward also to efforts to achieving comprehensive peace throughout the region."

Right to return

Jacky Rowland, reporting from Jerusalem, said: "It hasn't taken Benyamin Netanyahu long to show his true colours.

"Before the government was sworn in we heard statements that sought to allay fears that this would be a very right-wing government ... but now we are starting to see him produce hoops for the Palestinians to jump through," she said.

"Basically, asking the Palestinians to recognise Israel as a Jewish state is asking them to waive the right of return for Palestinian refugees."

Palestinians demand the right for the 4.6 million descendants of those who fled in 1948 to return to their lands that are now inside Israel.

"The idea of any Palestinian leader giving up on that claim lightly is really quite unrealistic," Rowland said.

The Palestinian Authority has rejected similar demands in the past, saying it only recognises Israel within the country's borders before the 1967 Middle East war when the Israelis seized the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

One in five people still living in Israel are Arabs.

Abdullah Abdullah, head of the PLO foreign affairs committee, told Al Jazeera that the comments showed Netanyahu was not interested in negotiating.

"He only puts this condition to block, to sabotage, any attempt by the American envoy to move the peace process forward," he said.

Netanyahu has said that he wants any peace talks with Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, to focus mainly on security and economic issues.

'Dead end'

Furthermore, Lieberman, an Israeli nationalist, has flatly rejected a restart of the Israeli-Palestinian talks launched by George Bush, the former US president, in Annapolis in 2007.

On Thursday, the Israeli foreign minister, said that "the peace process has reached a dead end" and that "the new government will have to formulate new ideas and approaches," according to a statement from his office.

Israel committed itself to the principle of a Palestinian state under the 2003 international "road map" for peace, which included a series of steps for Israelis and Palestinians to follow, eventually resulting in negotiations over core issues and the creation of a Palestinian state.

Under the Annapolis agreement, the two sides began discussing those final status issues last year.

Mitchell was expected to travel to Ramallah in the occupied West Bank on Friday to meet Abbas, who has insisted that the new Israeli cabinet commit itself to a two-state solution before the two sides can resume any talks.

HAARETZ: Senior U.S. officials in Washington and New York are leaning in favor of participating in the "Durban 2" UN-sponsored anti-racism conference scheduled to take place on April 20 in Geneva, diplomatic sources said on Sunday.

The diplomats, who share a close working relationship with the American delegation to the United Nations, informed leading Jewish officials in New York that Washington has increasingly become convinced of the need to dispatch representatives to the conference.

Israel plans on boycotting the conference for fear that it will turn into a platform for singling out Jerusalem for criticism over its policies in the Palestinian territories.

Leading figures in the organized American Jewish community have been lobbying Western ambassadors and European diplomats in the UN to dissuade their governments from participating in the Geneva summit.

A senior Jewish activist who took part in some of the discussions with Western diplomats told Haaretz that he would not be the least surprised if the U.S. indeed decides to send an official delegation. Dozens of human rights groups and activists in the United States have petitioned President Barack Obama to rethink his decision to boycott the conference.

"The Durban Review Conference is one of the most important international platforms for discussing the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerances," the activists wrote in a letter to the White House.

"Given the brutal history of slavery and Jim Crow in the United States, your Administration has much to contribute to this discussion," the petition read.

Initial draft resolutions for the United Nations Durban II summit branded Israel as an occupying state that carries out racist policies. It now speaks only of concern about the negative stereotyping of religions and does not single out Israel for criticism, according to the officials.

As you know, the Durban Review Conference is one of the most important international platforms for discussing the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerances. Given the brutal history of slavery and Jim Crow in the United States, your Administration has much to contribute to this discussion. A boycott would be inconsistent with your policy of engagement with the international community. A policy of engagement requires discussion with governments and institutions even if one does not agree with them as demonstrated by your statement last week to the people and leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran that your Administration is committed to seeking "engagement that is honest and grounded in mutual respect." How can your Administration engage in any manner with the international community if it has no representation at the discussion table?

The United States Should be Fighting for the Strongest Protections against Racism

The Durban Review process has offered a sophisticated and comprehensive framework for advancing racial equality including concrete guidelines for addressing the link between poverty, racism, sexism, and multiple forms of discrimination; advancing migrant rights; addressing youth violence; providing access to quality education, health care, and adequate housing; and advancing transparent governance in the fight for racial equality. We expect your Administration will not only engage in the process but will also work to ensure that the final outcome offers the strongest and most comprehensive framework for eliminating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerances. This is critical for progress in the domestic and global fight for racial and economic justice.

Specific Objections Raised do not Warrant a Boycott

We are concerned by the reasons put forth by your Administration for its refusal to engage in the conference. Notwithstanding that changes have been made to accommodate your Administration's specific objections, we do not believe that these objections should warrant a decision to boycott the conference. As we mentioned before, you recently demonstrated your Administration's willingness to engage in dialogue with governments with which you do not always agree such as the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we applaud that decision. Why would your Administration pursue a different policy now that it is time to discuss how to fight and eliminate racism for people in the United States and the rest of the world? How can the United States affirm freedom of expression - even for hate speech - if it refuses even to be present to listen to the views of others?

The United States Must Not Attempt to Ignore our History of Slavery

We are troubled that your Administration pushed for the withdrawal of language related to reparations, reference to the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity, and the overall weakening of the efforts related to people of African Descent. We recall your own speech on March 18, 2008 that we need to "remind ourselves that so many of the disparities that exist in the African-American community today can be directly traced to inequalities passed on from an earlier generation that suffered under the brutal legacy of slavery and Jim Crow." We also urge you to consider the bill H.R. 40 reintroduced by Representative Conyers in January calling for the establishment of a commission to examine the institution of slavery and current forms of racial discrimination, as well as to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies. We believe it will help illuminate the importance of discussing these issues both in the United States and globally.

The United States Must Engage the Global Fight for Racial Justice in Good Faith

It is regrettable that your Administration made its current decision on whether to participate in the Durban Review Conference based on one meeting. One meeting is inadequate for meaningful engagement in the process especially since the process has been ongoing since 2006 not including the time and preparation put into the 2001 World Conference Against Racism (WCAR). The actions of your Administration leave the impression that you are willing to ignore an important opportunity to advance racial equality if it is politically expedient.

The Current Position of Non-Participation is worse than that of the Bush Administration

A boycott by your Administration would be the first time in recent history that the United States has refused to participate in a United Nations conference. This position is even more radical than that of the Bush Administration's as the former Administration at least attended the preceding conference on race before withdrawing. We hope that your Administration will not squander this important opportunity to push for racial equality on the global stage and will instead send a diverse and high-level delegation including representatives from the non-governmental community.

A United States Refusal to Discuss Racism Encourages Other Countries to do the same

The current decision by your Administration not only affects the United States, but also provides cover for other countries that are reluctant to engage in a meaningful discussion on advancing racial equality to boycott the discussion as well. A United States boycott would have a long-term damaging effect on the global fight against racism.

In closing, we are reminded again of a speech you made a year ago insisting that race is an issue that this nation cannot afford to ignore right now. We applauded your thought-provoking speech then as it echoed basic American values of equality and fairness and reminded us of the importance of engaging in mature and constructive dialogue on race. We urge you not to ignore this global discussion on race. This is an issue that is extremely important for making genuine progress in the United States and advancing peace worldwide. It is also a priority for many of us who supported your campaign for change. Again, we look forward to your timely and substantive engagement in the Durban Review Conference.

2,600 Meter Long Message to Israel

Bethlehem - Ma’an - Sendamessage.nl will spray a nearly 2,000 word “Open letter to Israel” on an expected 2,625 meters of concrete separation wall near Ramallah in the coming weeks, organizers say.

The letter, from South African scholar and human rights activist Farid Esack, will be spray-painted by local members of the Send a Message campaign, and the cost of equipment, paint and documentation, estimated at 12,000 euros, will be covered by donations of 20 euros by hundreds of supporters of the campaign.

Organizers said any surplus in donations would go to small social projects in Palestine.

According to Send a Message founder Justus van Oel, Esack’s letter testifies “that the situation for Palestinians is far worse than what was experienced in South Africa under apartheid.”

A documentary on the project will be filmed by Federico Campanale and Iona Hoogendoorn on the writing and painting of the letter. The letter is expected to be completed on 10 May on the Palestinian side of the wall south of Ramallah. The first 500 words will be sprayed some time hear 19 April. source

DFLP Leader Dies in Gaza

Chalk up another death at the hands of Israel. No doubt if this man had not spent time in Israeli jails, no doubt if Gaza hospitals had enough doctors, equipment and medicine, no doubt that living under siege and constant threat and oppression causes people to die at the age of 42

Gaza – Ma’an – The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) announced on Sunday the death of one of its leaders in the Gaza Strip, 42-year-old Jabir Al-Qreinawi who passed away after a heart attack.

“The DFLP has lost a prominent leader and struggler who spent his lifetime sacrificing for Palestinian people’s rights of freedom, return of refugees, and independence,” a DFLP statement said.

Al-Qreinawi was born in Al-Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip on 19 April 1967 to a family originally from Beir As-Sab (Be’er Sheva). He held a master’s degree in business administration from Birzeit University. He was a lecturer in the Al-Quds Open University in the central Gaza Strip, and an official in the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He joined the DFLP in 1984. In 1989, he was jailed by Israel for political activity for two and a half years. source

Israeli Peace Activist & Journalist Injured by Israeli Troops

Bethlehem - Ma’an - Four were injured including one Israeli peace activist and an AP journalist as Israeli soldiers fired on protesters, including children, demonstrating in Bil’in on Friday.

The demonstration commemorated Children’s Day, and was headed by more than a dozen Palestinian children holding signs and banners saying: “It’s our right to live safely,” “The wall kills our hopes and dreams,” and “Settlements and the wall leave us with no future.”

Those injured were identified as AP journalist Mohammed Muhesen, an Israeli peace activist identified only as Kobi, and two Palestinians identified as Abdullah Aburahma, and Adeeb Aburahma.

Two children from Bilin were arrested prior to the protest, 16-year-olds Wajdy Ali Shehada Abu Rahma and Hamouda Emad Hahmouda Yassin. They were taken Thursday and found after midnight Friday morning, beaten, near the village of Qatana.source

Inspired by Gandhi, Palestinians to boycott Israeli products

Jerusalem: Deriving inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi's Indian National Movement, Palestinian activists in 50 villages of northern West Bank decided to launch a boycott campaign against Israeli products.

"We know change will go slowly, but we are determined to imitate what Gandhi did in India when he boycotted English salt," Khalid Mansour, the chairman of the Popular Committees in Nablus told Palestinian news agency 'Maan'.

As per official statistics Palestinians consume 2.6 billion shekels (USD 0.6 billion) worth of Israeli goods each year, Mansoor said.

28 per cent of this money is said to be spent on the purchasing cement from Israel.

Palestinians also consume 30 million shekels (USD 2.40 million) worth of medicines and 10 million worth of gold produced in Israel every year.

He said that subcommittees will be formed in each of the 50 villages to monitor the boycott and start awareness campaign at schools to boycott Israeli products

Arab MK: IDF soldiers attacked me in Hebron

Israeli Arab MK Mohammad Barakeh claimed on Saturday he was attacked by Israel Defense Forces soldiers during a demonstration in Hebron.

Barakeh, chairman of the Hadash party, said troops pushed him violently and sprayed him with tear gas when they through tear gas and shock grenades into the crowd.

The incident occurred when IDF soldiers asked dozens of leftist and Palestinian demonstrators to disperse. They had staged their protest in front of the settlement inside the West Bank city, a frequent flashpoint for tensions between Israelis and Palestinians.

Barakeh, however, refused to leave and told the soldiers that the only people able to make such a request were the city's true owners, the Palestinians.

The IDF relayed in response that troops were not at all violent toward the lawmaker. They employed riot control measures, the army said, after the protestors had refused to leave despite an IDF order declaring the area a closed military zone.

The army and police said according to video they took of the incident, it is clear that Barakeh was not attacked.

"Never Again" Must Apply to All People~Canadian Jewish Group Gets it Right!

Wow, I really admire this group of Canadian Jews for speaking out. Just want to pass this one on. If you are Jewish and live in Canada and you believe in free speech as opposed to censorship. Then this is for you. A very courageous group of Canadian Jews are speaking out over the suppression of those who speak out or criticise Israel, fair play to them. They need your support, visit them and join them or give them a link on your blog to spread the word and show your support.

Jewish Canadians Concerned about Suppression of Criticism of Israel

We are Jewish Canadians concerned about all expressions of racism, anti-Semitism, and social injustice. We believe that the Holocaust legacy "Never again" means never again for all peoples.

It is a tragic turn of history that the State of Israel, with its ideals of democracy and its dream of being a safe haven for Jewish people, causes immeasurable suffering and injustice to the Palestinian people.

We are appalled by recent attempts of prominent Jewish organizations and leading Canadian politicians to silence protest against the State of Israel.

We are alarmed by the escalation of fear tactics. Charges that those
organizing Israel Apartheid Week or supporting an academic boycott of Israel are anti-Semites promoting hatred bring the anti-Communist terror of the 1950s vividly to mind. We believe this serves to deflect attention from Israel’s flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.

B’nai Brith and the Canadian Jewish Congress have pressured university presidents and administrations to silence debate and discussion specifically regarding Palestine/Israel. In a full-page ad in a national newspaper, B’nai Brith urged donors to withhold funds from universities because "anti-Semitic hate fests" were being allowed on campuses. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff have echoed these arguments. While university administrators have resisted demands to shut
down Israel Apartheid week, some Ontario university presidents have bowed to this disinformation campaign by suspending and fining students, confiscating posters, and infringing on free speech.

We do not believe that Israel acts in self-defense. Israel is the largest
recipient of US foreign aid, receiving $3 million/day. It has the fourth
strongest army in the world. Before the invasion of Gaza on 27 December 2008, Israel’s siege had already created a humanitarian catastrophe there, with severe impoverishment, malnutrition, and destroyed infrastructure. It is crucial that forums for discussion of Israel’s accountability to the international community for what many have called war crimes be allowed to proceed unrestricted by specious claims of anti-Semitism.

We recognize that anti-Semitism is a reality in Canada as elsewhere, and we are fully committed to resisting any act of hatred against Jews. At the same time, we condemn false charges of anti-Semitism against student organizations, unions, and other groups and people exercising their democratic right to freedom of speech and association regarding legitimate criticism of the State of Israel.

Over 150 Jewish Canadians signed the above statement expressing their concerns about the campaign to suppress criticism of Israel that is being carried on within Canada. The signatories include many prominent Canadians, including Ursula Franklin O.C., Anton Kuerti O.C., Naomi Klein, Dr. Gabor Mate, and professors Meyer Brownstone (recipient of Pearson Peace Medal), Natalie
Zemon Davis, Michael Neumann, and Judy Rebick. *

The signatories are particularly concerned that unfounded accusations of anti-Semitism deflect attention from Israel’s accountability for what many have called war crimes in Gaza. They state that B’nai Brith and the Canadian Jewish Congress have led campaigns to silence criticism of Israel on university campuses, in labor unions and in other groups. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff unquestioningly
echo the views of these particular Jewish organizations.

They strongly state that they are against all expressions of racism. While firmly committed to resisting any form of prejudice against Jewish people, their statement explicitly states that these spurious allegations of anti-Semitism bring the anti-Communist terror of the 1950s vividly to mind.

The statement underlines the immeasurable suffering and injustice to the Palestinian people due to the severe poverty, daily humiliations, and military invasions inflicted by the State of Israel.
