Here is a small news roundup covering the Good and Great Democracies of America and England. (pun intended completely!) Want a first hand look at duplicity?

Since the Election in Palestine, which Bush touted as wholly “Democratic and Fair” the West has branded Hamas as “terrorists” and refused to recognise their electoral mandate. Hence, never mind who people vote for, if we don’t like whom you elect, we, along with Israel, will either destroy it with surgical strikes of Government buildings and kidnap and intern Government officials, strangle your country with an illegal siege, or inflict a genocide on the civilian population to punish them for voting. And this on a country that has never attacked America.

Now contrast the above with this insanity. Bush heads to Afghanistan after 9-11 to “smoke em outta their holes” to “hunt them down, dead or alive” to “Get Bin Laden and his supporters” and now here we are 8 years later and lo and behind the great military power of America cannot win the war. So, what does America do? Why begin negotiations with the Taliban (those would be the guys they’ve been fighting against for 8 years who work and support Bin Laden and Al Qaeda) and also offer to bring them into an Afghan government as their reward for helping Bin Laden and being part of Al Qaeda.

So, a country that supports, hides and works with Al Qaeda who DID attack America means the Americans will talk to them and allow them into government. And a country like Palestine, where no one attacked America, where no one sides with Al Qaeda, where the election was democratic, where the government wants to enter a peace process, America refuses to talk to them. Quotes from an interview with commander of US forces in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal:

And UN special envoy to Afghanistan Kai Eide said this:

"If you want relevant results, then you have to talk to the relevant person in authority," Eide said, adding that he believes the time has come to do it.

The move to reconcile with Taliban after eight years of a bitter US-led conflict in the war-ravaged nation has been described as a defeat for Washington and the Afghan government.

Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, the United States invaded Afghanistan to allegedly kill or capture al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and root out militancy in the country.

Signs that this "plan" will take place are beginning to emerge as now the UN agrees with the “plan” to integrate the Taliban into the Afghan government, whilst at the same time refusing to acknowledge the elected government of Gaza, who never bombed America:

link The official heading an inquiry into the suspicious death of a British weapons inspector who cast doubts on the main argument for invading Iraq has secretly ordered all evidence locked up for 70 years.

Lord Hutton, who chaired the 2003 inquiry, which controversially concluded that Doctor David Kelly's death has been a suicide, secured a 70-year seal on all major evidence, including medical records — none of which had ever been made public.

The unprecedented move was revealed last week, sparking fresh uproar and allegations of a government cover-up — considering that by 2073 anyone with the least interest, or stake, in the case will probably be long dead.

Kelly was mysteriously found dead in the woods near his Oxfordshire home in July 2003, just days after his name was leaked as the source of a pre-war BBC documentary that undermined the now-notorious 45-minute dossier as highly exaggerated.

The clandestine restrictions came to light when a group of 13 doctors challenging the Hutton verdict received a letter from the Oxfordshire County Council in answer to their calls to see the postmortem file.

"It fits in with the subversion of due process we have seen for six years. It is extraordinary…I am shocked but not surprised by this," the Daily Mail quoted Dr. David Halpin, one of the group of 13 doctors, as saying on Saturday.

The revelations may prompt calls on the country's ongoing inquiry into the Iraq war, to question former British premier Tony Blair, who is to give evidence later this week, on the issue.

Blair penned a clinching introduction to the dossier, claiming spies had proved “beyond doubt” that the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction that he could launch within 45-minutes.

How anyone can even remotely think for one minute that England and America stand for anything even closely resembling openness, democracy or justice is beyond me. America gives the entire Arab world a shining example of what a former Democracy looks like when taken over by Israel and neocons who have an agenda of making profitable wars for both of those countries, with the added bonus of taking control of the entire middle east.

"Regrettable" ....The Other Choices

Hillary Clinton has called the continued ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem "Regrettable." After reading that lack lustre phrase. I wondered, as one would wonder, what other choices were available. So, I dutifully looked up all the synonyms for the word "Regrettable" such as: afflictive, calamitous, deplorable, dire, disappointing, distressing, dreadful, grievous, heartbreaking, ill-advised, lamentable, pitiable, pitiful, sad, shameful, unfavorable, unhappy, woeful; Given these choices,perhaps the words "Dire, Deplorable, Dreadful, Grievous, or Shameful" would have been a much better description of reality

Clinton's Israeli Handlers May Want Refund

Clinton’s Israeli Handlers may want their money back soon. They are thinking to themselves; “Damn, all that money and she goes and says this";

"We want Iran to calculate what I think is a fair assessment: that if the United States extends a defense umbrella over the region, if we do even more to develop the military capacity of those (allies) in the Gulf, it is unlikely that Iran will be any stronger or safer,"

What they were hoping for and expecting was this statement;

“Go ahead Israel, use your “secret nukes” to Bomb the Shit out of Iran and wipe them off the face of the earth. Don’t worry, we will cover for you as always.”

Israel slams Clinton statement on nuclear Iran

A key minister in the Israeli government criticized U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's statement on Tuesday that Washington would provide "a defense umbrella" for its allies in the Middle East in the event that Iran develops nuclear weapons.

Dan Meridor, Israel's minister for secret services, told Army Radio that the comments imply a willingness to reconcile with the eventuality of a nuclear-armed Iran.

Next Wednesday, a senior U.S. delegation led by National Security Adviser James Jones will arrive in Israel. He will be accompanied by President Barack Obama's special Mideast adviser, Dennis Ross, who recently served as Clinton's special adviser on Iran.

The delegation will also include representatives of the CIA, Defense Department, Treasury and State Department. These officials were invited to Israel by National Security Advisor Uzi Arad, who will lead the Israeli side in what is said to be a continuation of talks held in Washington around three weeks ago.

Clinton Falls~Breaks Arm

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fell and broke her elbow on Wednesday while en route to the White House but will resume her full duties soon as the top U.S. diplomat, the State Department said.

Clinton will have surgery to repair her elbow in the next week, her chief of staff Cheryl Mills said in a statement released overnight.

"On the way to the White House late this afternoon, Secretary Clinton fell and suffered a right elbow fracture. She was treated at The George Washington University Hospital before heading home," Mills said. link

Russia Gets it Right

Russia gets it 100% correct on dealing with Iran. Clinton gets pwnd by Larov in Russia, Good for Russia for not being pressured!

Russia has been at loggerheads with the US regarding Washington's threat of imposing further unilateral sanctions on Iran over its nuclear dossier.

The two sides stressed the need to work harder together in collaboration with others in the field of nuclear non-proliferation (Good luck with getting Israel on board, they love their nukes and dream of using them to wipe out all Arabs)

But Russia did not back up one-sided US harsher punitive actions against Iran.

"There are collective decisions adopted in the United Nations Security Council, and those oblige all countries in the world to behave in a particular way and to fulfill certain requirements. But there are also unilateral sanctions that the United States or the European Union has imposed in addition to the UNSC with regard to Iran…We keep telling our partners that unilateral sanctions are not in line with our collective actions," Lavrov told reporters when asked about Clinton's recent remarks on Iran.

Clinton had told US lawmakers in late April that the US was 'willing' to engage diplomatically with Iran but at the same time threatened Tehran with 'very tough, crippling sanctions' if the US failed to obtain its desired results.

CLINTON: "We are in the process of laying the groundwork for making the case for tougher sanctions. We have not laid the groundwork. And I think that the case that we're making to our partners in the P-5+1 is to reach out to Iran…But we are very watchful as to how Iran responds," Clinton told reporters. (that is a threat, it is not reaching out to Iran, and threats make people go hardline. When will the US learn this)

Lavrov however said that Russia saw no "sense" in any harsh sanctions against Iran but instead sought to return Iran to the negotiating table. "But as far as pressure is concerned, if we understand by pressure, the efforts aimed at convincing Iran to return to the negotiations table - we are applying such efforts in an active and robust manner."

Russia along with other four permanent members of the UN Security Council- -US, UK, France and China- - plus Germany are discussing Iran's long disputed nuclear issue.

While the UNSC, under US pressure, has adopted three rounds of sanctions against Iran over its uranium enrichment work, Moscow disagrees to pile up pressure on Tehran and rejects any 'violent solution' to the issue. Russia says diplomacy could best solve the matter.

Despite promising a new beginning with Iran, the new US administration has apparently followed in Bush's footsteps. The Obama administration earlier extended Clinton-era sanctions in 1995. It also imposed sanctions on six Iranian firms over alleged links to Tehran's missile and nuclear work last month.

Amid efforts to solve Tehran's nuclear issue,Iran says it is open to the negotiations without any precondition which would undermine its right to use peaceful nuclear technology as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). (A treaty that Israel will not sign up to BTW!!) source

A Report From Gaza

You can't get a more Senior Sinn Fein delegation than this one. The US appear to be using leading Irish Republicans possibly as part of a beginning peace process attempt. I hope the US plays fairly and honestly, and is not using Irish Republicans for a peace process that will never be fair for Palestinians. Last month in Washington Adams met with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Special Envoy George Mitchell about the Middle East. When Adams arrived in Israel to pass into Gaza, the Israelis banned him for entering because he refused to agree not to meet with Hamas (the elected government of Gaza!) Then, suddenly the very next day, Adams was immediately let into Gaza. This after a scolding to Israel by Blair and Mitchell. I posted about this the other day. Anyhow, I said I would follow up, and so am doing that now.

The following is a report of Gerry Adams visit to Gaza. as told by Richard McAuley a member of the delegation. Take a deep breath for some reality of what it is like there right now. This is just so devastating to read, truly devastating.

On 7 April, the Sinn Féin delegation – Gerry Adams, Richard McAuley, Ted Howell and Harry Thompson – visited the region for four days. Richard McAuley tells of their time in Gaza, including meeting the Hamas Prime Minister and Fatah and the PLO.

THE sights and sounds, the silences and smells of Gaza will stay with me forever.

There’s the father and mother standing in a hospital room waiting for their 13-year-old to die from bone cancer because the Israelis wouldn’t allow her to get the medical treatment she needed.

Then there’s the family living within a cave made from the twisted ruins of a bombed building after their home was blasted by Israeli shells.

The smell of burned timber in the hospital devastated by Israeli bombs.

The state-of-the-art radiation machine standing quiet because the spare parts needed for it to save lives cannot be brought into Gaza because of the Israeli siege.

The derelict ruined buildings with empty windows and huge holes punched through their walls.

From the moment we drove through the huge gates, under sullen watchtowers and between the enormous blast walls of the Erez Crossing, we knew we were going into a prison – a monstrous affair in which one and a half million people have been held in the worst of conditions by the Israeli siege.

The derelict landscape which greeted us on the other side of the Erez Crossing – from Israel into Gaza – looked like a scene from some apocalyptic movie. But this wasn’t the work of clever Hollywood designers and scenic artists or CGI experts – this was real. Real buildings, real workplaces, real homes, real farms, real schools, real hospitals. The hearts of real communities that had been bombed and bulldozed into rubble.

And within this landscape of twisted girders, collapsed buildings, of toppled walls and concrete blocks, human beings are trying to survive.

And good people in UNWRA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, in the International Committee of the Red Cross, in MFS and Oxfam, in the Palestine Red Crescent Society and countless other NGOs and individuals are working exhaustively to help over a million refugees, many of whom are still stunned – shell-shocked – by the destruction around them.

Gaza was not the starting point of our four-day visit to the region but the 48 hours we spent there have left memories and images of despair and pain and of hope and courage that are unforgettable.

Gerry and I were in Israel and the West Bank two-and-a-half years ago. Then we were unable to visit Gaza because of insufficient time. Following the 23-day Israeli assault on that besieged territory over Christmas and the start of the New Year, Gerry was determined to visit the Middle East again, and especially Gaza.He wanted to talk to as many people as possible – Israelis and Palestinians – and receive as much information as he and we could absorb.

Irish republicans are in an exceptional position. Unlike most of those who are part of the enormous conflict resolution business around the world, republicans have experienced the reality of conflict and peace-making, and not just the theory.

Sinn Féin is for an end to:–
• The Israeli occupation of Gaza;
• The blockade and sanctions;
• The wall which steals Palestinian land and divides families and communities;
• The refugee camps.

With a new US President in Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declaring that the resolution of Palestinian and Israeli issue is a strategic priority for the new US administration, and with the appointment of George Mitchell as Obama’s special envoy to the Middle East, Gerry believed that the time was right for a visit to the region and for the production of a report which might be useful to those likely to be involved in any new peace efforts.

Such an initiative appears likely. George Mitchell’s appointment has especially heightened interest in the Middle East into his role in the negotiations leading to the Good Friday Agreement.

Last month, when we were in Washington, Gerry and I and Rita O’Hare spent over an hour with Senator George Mitchell, mainly talking about the Middle East. In our meeting with Hillary Clinton we also discussed this issue.

In this context, Gerry felt very strongly that a visit to the region at this time and a report containing observations and suggestions could be helpful.

Our first day in Israel
So, four of us – Gerry, myself, Ted Howell and Harry Thompson – travelled to Jerusalem on Monday, 6 April. We arrived in the early hours of Tuesday morning and a few hours later met Tony Blair, the British former Prime Minister, in the American Colony Hotel.

Blair is in the region representing the interests of the Big Four or what is known as the Quartet – the EU, the USA, Russia and the UN. Latterly much of his focus appears to have been on economic development.

With the long lead-in to the US elections last November and the Israeli elections of last month, and the negotiations underway between the Palestinian groups in Cairo, there has been a political hiatus in effect for some time.

The plan for our visit was that we would spend the first day in Israel. Trocaire funds a number of NGOs in southern Israel specialising in trauma counselling for families living in Sderot. This Israeli city has been the target for many of the thousands of primitive Kasssam rockets fired out of Gaza, The Van Leer Institute in Jerusalem had also arranged a number of engagements for us.

Following an hour with Tony Blair talking about the current situation in the region, we travelled to the Sderot Resilience Centre and met local activists as well as representatives of the Israeli Trauma Coalition. We were told that the rockets have killed up to eight people in the seven years of their use and injured many others.

By this point some of the media in Israel were reporting that we were to be refused entry into Gaza. The Israeli Government had asked for a commitment from Gerry that we would not meet Hamas. We refused to give such a commitment. Our position was quite simple – we would meet anyone who wished to meet with us, and especially democratically-elected representatives.

The Israeli Government had said that neither ministers nor officials would meet us. Apparently, this approach by the Israelis has so far succeeded in securing such a commitment from other delegations visiting Gaza.

On the kibbutz
From Sderot we travelled to the kibbutz at Kfar Aza (Gaza Village), where we met Shai Hermesh, a member of the centre-left Kadima party in the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset. Up to last month his party had been in government. Shai told us the story of Israel and its relationship, from his perspective, with the Palestinians. He brought us around the kibbutz and it was from there that we had our first real glimpse of Gaza in the distance beyond the barbed wire surrounding the village.

Hours later, back in Jerusalem, we met Rabbi Arik Asherman from the Rabbis for Human Rights group. They have taken a very strong stand against human rights violations by the Israeli Government and its agencies and have stood with Palestinian families whose homes have either been destroyed or are threatened with destruction. He brought Gerry to meet several such families in east Jerusalem.

Later again, we met with members of the Van Leer institute and it was during the evening that we received confirmation that we were to travel into Gaza the next morning. The Jerusalem Post was still claiming the next morning we were not getting in.

We were on our way into Gaza – what Gerry Adams was to call “a huge, outdoor prison”.

PART 2 of Report from Gaza:

Erez Crossing
Bright and early on Wednesday morning we were on the road to Erez Crossing – the entry point into Gaza. At a nearby café we met John Ging, the United Nations director who was hosting our visit.

We drove in UNWRA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) vehicles to Erez Crossing. As we approached this massive border crossing I was struck by its similarity to Long Kesh. A high concrete wall stretched for miles with guard posts positioned along it.

The crossing itself, which is three years old, resembles an airport terminal but has never been properly used. It was built to accommodate up to 30,000 Palestinians crossing each day back and forward to work in Israel. But since its construction Gaza has been under siege so Erez sits largely unused, except for the occasional travellers, mainly UN and other NGO workers.

On this dazzling sunny morning it was four Irish republicans who made our way through it. After having our passports checked we were allowed to travel through in our UN vehicles.

The gates through which we passed from one air-lock to the next are massive metal things weighing tons. The concrete blast walls are enormous, and at the other side of this there is a 600-metre-wide no-mans land before you reach the ramshackle Palestinian border crossing.

There we climbed into armoured UN vehicles before beginning our two-day visit in Gaza.

Gaza
Our first stop, a short distance away, was the village of Izbet Abd Rabo, which was destroyed during the Israeli assault. There was nothing of value still standing. Nothing salvageable. And in the midst of this desolation Gerry held his press conference. He spoke first in Irish – which clearly took his media audience and interpreter by surprise.

Then, in English, he told them who he was and why we were in Gaza. He set the tone of the two-day visit by describing the Israeli assault as wrong and declaring that all people have the right to live in peace and safety and security. He made it clear that, while he was in no way accepting that the rocket attacks into Israel justified the Israeli response, he called for an end to them and to all armed actions by all sides.

And he stated Sinn Féin’s belief that dialogue, involving all parties, is essential to any peaceful resolution.

Gerry described the international community’s response to the plight of the Palestinians, and in particular of Gaza, as “shameful”.

An elderly and angry Palestinian woman confronted him. It appeared she thought he was with the UN. She had lost her home, her husband and a large number of family members in the Israeli bombardment and ground offensive. We met another family living in a cave created by the collapsed walls of a nearby building. They had nothing but the clothes on their backs and a few mats on the floor.

After that it was off on a round of meetings that lasted until midnight. UNWRA brought us to the industrial area closeby, where thousands of workers lost their jobs when scores of factories were destroyed; to the American International School, flattened by Israeli rockets; to the offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross; to a lunchtime meeting with civic society leaders, including human rights groups; to the Islamic University and a meeting with the heads of several universities in Gaza; and to the Al-Quds Hospital.

The hospital was one of those severely damaged during the Israeli air attack. We walked through destroyed hospital wards and listened to accounts from doctors and others of their efforts to provide medical attention to the wounded and dying in the midst of chaos and war.

We also met with Karen Koning Abuzzayd, who is the Under-Secretary General for UNRWA and who gave us a sense of the huge relief operation they run to feed and care for the needs of the almost one million, one hundred thousand refugees living in Gaza. It is an amazing enterprise involving a staff of almost ten thousand.

Meeting Ismail Haniyeh – Hamas Prime Minister
That evening we met with women’s groups. At 9.30pm, representatives of the Hamas Government arrived to take us at high speed through a confusion of darkened streets to a meeting with the Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza. It was obvious that his colleagues remain deeply concerned for his safety and they took precautions to protect their leader.

He’s a big man with a warm smile and friendly demeanour who readily shook all our hands and urged us to sit.

Through an interpreter he welcomed Gerry and the rest of us. He spoke of the Irish republican struggle and of the Irish Peace Process. The Prime Minister explained to us the Hamas decision to stand in the elections of 2006, of their success and of the subsequent hostile reaction of Israel, the EU and USA. He told us of the human and economic cost of the Israeli blockade and of the recent air and ground offensive.

Gerry and he spoke about peace and how to achieve it, of the difficulties involved and of the possibilities arising from the appointment of George Mitchell. They spoke about Hamas’s attitude to Israel and the accusation that Hamas was for the destruction of the Israeli state and against peace.

It was a long meeting. Almost an hour and a half. When it was over we were whisked back to our hotel. I used the hotel internet to immediately issue a statement from Gerry explaining that we had met the Hamas leader. In it Gerry said:
“I was pleased to speak directly with Mr Haniyeh. I outlined to him Sinn Féin’s view that there should be a complete cessation of all hostilities and armed actions by all sides.

“I emphasised our opinion that dialogue, including substantive and inclusive negotiations, and a genuine peace process, is the only way forward for Palestinians and Israelis.

“The fact is that the people of Palestine and the people of Israel are destined to live side by side. I believe that most people want a peaceful accommodation.
“Following my meeting with Mr Haniyeh I believe that progress is possible. Mr Haniyeh told me that Hamas wants a peace agreement.

“As I have said consistently: there needs to be a dialogue between the people of Palestine and their leadership and the people of Israel and their leadership. That is what worked in Ireland.

“I believe that there is a duty on the international community to recognise the democratic outcome of the elections in Palestinian Territories. I believe that the people of Palestine and the people of Israel have the right to live free from the fear of threats, with human rights and in dignity and as equals.

“The citizens of Gaza are living in an open-air prison. They are being denied their human and national rights. This has to be rectified.”

The human cost of the siege
The next morning we were up early for an intensive round of further meetings. Local business leaders expressed their anger at the impact of the siege on efforts to stimulate jobs and commerce. The blockade means that no reconstruction of the damaged caused during the Israeli attack has been possible. The business and commercial life of Gaza is being strangled.

Other political meetings took place during the day with representatives from Fatah, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the People’s Party and others.

In the afternoon, we met the Hamas Mayor of Gaza and the City Council, Minister for Health Dr Bassem Na’im, and senior Hamas government officials, the Palestinian Legislative Council, including the Minister for Justice, and we visited Shifa Hospital.

The director of the hospital, which is the largest in the Palestinian Territories, gave us a quick tour and explained some of the grave medical and human problems confronting them. He told us that within minutes of the commencement of the Israeli attack in December around 140 bodies were brought to the front door of the hospital. The medical staff were swamped and there were so many bodies in such desperate condition that initially they couldn’t tell the dead from the severely wounded.

The director pointed to a half-finished building for much-needed intensive care units. It can’t be completed because the Israeli blockade prevents building materials coming into Gaza. During a tour of the hospital we were taken into rooms containing modern radiation machines for treating cancer patients that are lying idle because the Israeli authorities will not allow spare parts in.

In one particular hospital room we were introduced to a father and mother watching over their 13-year-old daughter who lay curled up on a hospital bed and will die shortly because she could not receive the treatment she needed for bone cancer. It was a heart-breaking experience.

The political meetings and interviews with the media continued again up to very late that evening. It was our last night in Gaza.

The next morning we were at Erez at 8am waiting to cross back into Israel. This time, however, the Israeli authorities would not allow us to use the cars. We had to walk through ‘No Man’s Land’ with our bags and baggage to the terminal.

There, a remote voice instructed us through air-locks and computer-controlled doors. Bags on one track to be scanned and X-rayed, and us into an enclosed contraption that whizzed around us to presumably detect anything illegal.

A long, deliberately dragged-out process that took two-and-a-half hours. A new experience for us but for the dozen or so NGO workers who travel back and forward every few weeks it was an old routine experienced many times. Some told us that they can wait up to 12 hours! I felt sorry for them having to put up with that nonsense but they took it in their stride – fair play to them.

Behind us, one and a half million people remained locked up in their huge out-door prison. The Israeli blockade allows a drip-feed of food and other resources. It’s all minimal. Barely enough to keep the place ticking over. Barely enough to feed people. The electricity network often fails. The sewage system is inadequate and is frequently on the point of collapse. People – children mostly – are dying because of inadequate medical resources or access to outside care. No substantial repairs have been carried out on damaged property, no homes being built, no factories being repaired and there is no sign of any relaxation of the siege.

It is a depressing, disastrous human crisis that looks set to get worse unless wiser heads prevail.

The Israelis seem determined to sustain the siege while the international community appears equally determined to stand by and allow this inhumanity to continue. It’s a disgrace but, worse, without a solution soon, it is a powder keg waiting to explode.

With 60 per cent of the population of Gaza under 18, the consequences for the region of this huge youth population isolated and trapped in a small confined geographical area and within a cycle of violence and poverty is obvious – or at least it should be. As Gerry warned:

“If allowed to fester and grow, in 20 years the world will look back at this time and remember Hamas as the moderates!”

And then we were out and on our way to Ramallah in the West Bank where we had a meeting with the Palestinian Authority.

We were now back on republican time – that is, we were running late. Later on still, we travelled to Bethlehem where Dr As’ad Abdul Rahman of the PLO Executive walked us around Al Duhasha, a Palestinian refugee camp established 60 years ago.

In the evening, we held discussions with members of the PLO Executive, including Rafiq Husseini, President Mahmoud Abbas’s Chief of Staff, and again Dr As’ad Abdul Rahman of the PLO Executive.

Back in Ireland
Saturday morning before Easter Sunday and we were on our way home.
Speaking on his return to Ireland, Gerry summarised the four days and outlined our next steps.

“I left the Middle East even more convinced that a process of dialogue between all of the participants is essential for progress.

“Democratic mandates must be respected and in any negotiation process there must be clear objectives set, within a fixed timeframe, if there is to be confidence that any new round of negotiations will be real.

“I believe that only a two-state solution which provides for the security and prosperity of Palestinians and Israelis, as well as national rights for Palestinians, can deliver a durable peace settlement.

“The response of the international community over many years to the political and humanitarian crisis in this region, and in particular to the plight of the Palestinian people, has been shameful.

“With George Mitchell travelling to the Middle East early next week there is a new opportunity opening up which must be grasped. But as that new initiative takes shape, the siege of Gaza should end immediately, all armed actions should cease and the reconstruction of Gaza, which the Israeli blockade is preventing, should begin.
“I intend to submit a report of my visit to Senator Mitchell and to the Irish, British and US governments and others with an interest in and influence on the situation there.

“Eleven years ago on Friday, the Good Friday Agreement was achieved. Many of those I have spoken to in recent days in the Middle East clearly take hope from that achievement. With political will it can be done in the Middle East also.”

Israel to be Punished With Sanctions

Well, I take this with a grain of salt till I see some action. But there seems to be some serious rhetoric being flung at Israel by the Obama Admin who may be getting serious about dealing with Israels pigheaded war mongering against Iran. An Attack on Iran will not serve Americas interests and for what it's worth, I think Obama knows this. Now, whether he can force the issue is a whole other kettle of fish. This attack on Iran thingie has been going on since before Obama took office. Even the stupid "shrub" Bush knew attacking Iran would not serve American interests. As Israeli threats of war against Iran encounter stiff opposition in the US, the new administration mulls over imposing sanctions on Tel Aviv.

US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are mulling over a plan to impose sanctions against Israel if the right-wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu implements its long-sought policy of countering Iran's nuclear activities by taking military action against the country.

According to a report by RIA Novosti, the Obama White House is on a collision course with longstanding Israeli plans to launch a military strike on Iranian nuclear infrastructure.

Earlier on Wednesday Israel's Home Front Command announced plans to mobilize the Israeli army as well as the public to hold the largest military exercise in its history on June 2.

The head of Israel's Department for Population at the Home Front Command Colonel Hilik Sofer said by holding the weeklong military exercise Israel seeks to "transform the population from a passive to an active one... We want the citizens to understand that war can happen tomorrow morning."

Earlier in March, hawkish Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu raised the alarm about a major military conflict in the upcoming months. source

Those causes: Israel, the Democratic Party and medical philanthropy -- in that order. And he has a history of putting his vast fortune behind all three.

And if that is not enough to worry you, how bout this?

At some point in 2005, Harman was recorded on federal wiretaps as part of an espionage investigation of a pro-Israel lobby group. According to the Congressional Quarterly and the New York Times, Harman offered to intervene in the investigation in return for the group's support of her quest to be named head of the House Intelligence Committee. According to press reports, an alleged agent from the lobbying group told Harman that he would get Saban -- who holds both Israeli and U.S. citizenship -- to withhold contributions from then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi unless the San Francisco congresswoman agreed to name Harman chairwoman

According to The Times report, a caller captured on a National Security Agency wire tap is recorded telling U.S. Rep. Jane Harman that Saban would call House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and threaten to withhold campaign contributions if she did not make Harman chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

And he used that money to buy Politicians for Israel

With his place secured among the world's richest men, Saban was free to become a financial superhero to a generation of Democratic office seekers. His motives were always perfectly clear. "Everyone knows that there's no greater passion in Saban's life than the state of Israel and its continued survival," said veteran Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman. "He's very focused. Anyone with billions of dollars and that much passion is a big deal."

And, even worse, he has close ties with the Clintons. And with Hillary Clinton now Secretary of State, what does this mean for Middle East Peace, justice for Palestinians, and Israel's continued agression in the region. And the beggest question of all is jsut what kind of pressure is being put on the American Government to allow, or assist israel to attack Iran? Clinton ties below:

After Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton lost her bid for the presidency, there was a rumor that Saban was going to support Sen. John McCain because he doubted the solidity of then-Sen. Barack Obama's commitment to Israel.

And here's more on the Clinton connection, plus a connection to the DNC itself. Terry McAuliffe, who, as we all know, worked in Hillary’s campaign AND was head of the DNC, also has close ties with Saban and has taken huge donations from him. This from the washington post:

Haim Saban, a wealthy California media mogul and Terry McAuliffe's top individual donor in his bid for Virginia governor, was part of an effort to influence a Justice Department investigation of two pro-Israel lobbyists accused of spying, according to a report published this week in The New York Times.
Saban has been a pro-Israel activist since the 1990s, and, according to campaign finance data, is, over the past decade, the largest giver to federal elections in the nation. He has given McAuliffe $276,064 for his gubernatorial bid, about $25,000 the cost of hosting a fundraiser for Mcauliffe and the rest a cash donation.

He has personally paid more money to politicians than any other American—$13 million since 1999, according to Portfolio—all with the avowed intent of ensuring that the U.S. will support Israel no matter what Israel does. Saban told Portfolio that his grudging support of Barack Obama in the 2008 election was premised on being reassured that Obama had a "visceral commitment, as opposed to a logical or strategic one," to the Jewish state.

During the 2008 Democratic primary campaign, when it looked like superdelegates were going to decide the race, Saban reportedly offered the Young Democrats of America—which controlled two superdelegate votes—$1 million if they would support Hillary Clinton. Saban denied it. Nor is his political largesse limited to the U.S.—he reportedly paid $120,000 to Shimon Peres' prime minister campaign in 2006 in exchange for help in purchasing the Israeli communications company Bezeq.

In 2002, Saban launched the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, an arm of the Brookings Institution, with a $13 million grant. It served as a sort of left-wing cover operation for proponents of the invasion of Iraq, employing liberal hawks like Kenneth Pollack, whose book The Threatening Storm: The Case for Invading Iraq was influential in bringing Democrats on board with the Bush Adminsitration's plans.

Glenn Greenwald has criticized Saban for being "an Israeli-American neoconservative who was a 2004 supporter of George [W.] Bush, was a close associate of Ariel Sharon, and spent the 1990s persuading Bill Clinton (with millions of dollars in donations to the Democratic Party) to be more supportive of Israel."

During the Clinton administration, the entertainment executive served on the President's Export Council, advising the White House on trade issues."[11] The New York Times reported that Haim and his wife "slept in the White House several times during President Clinton's two terms. And Mr. Saban has remained close to the former president."

Hillary Clinton had a long history of good relations with Haim dating back to Haim's late 1990s support of her husband's political efforts. Hillary told a reporter for the New York Times in September 2004 that "Haim Saban has been a very good friend, supporter and adviser to me. I am grateful for his commitment to Israel, to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East and to my foundation's work, particularly on reconciliation issues."[3]

In May 2007, Haim publicly declared his support for Hillary Clinton in 2008 presidential election.[8]

In June 2007, Haim and Steven Spielberg co-hosted a Hillary Clinton fundraiser at the house of Peter Chernin, the President of News Corporation.[13] According to the Los Angeles Times[13], the fundraiser brought in over $850,000.

In March 2008, Saban was among a group of major Jewish donors to sign a letter to Democratic Party house leader Nancy Pelosi warning her to "keep out of the Democratic presidential primaries."[14] The donors, who "were strong supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential campaign", "were incensed by a March 16 interview in which Pelosi said that party 'superdelegates' should heed the will of the majority in selecting a candidate."[14] The letter to Pelosi stated the donors "have been strong supporters of the DCCC" and implied, according to The Jewish Telegraphic Agency[14], that Pelosi could lose their financial support in important upcoming congressional elections.

On May 19, 2008, it was reported that Haim Saban had "offered $1 million to the Young Democrats of America during a phone conversation in which he also pressed for the organization's two uncommitted superdelegates to endorse the New York Democrat."[15]

Asked about the Israel-United States relationship Saban has answered:

Do you still feel, as you once did, that America's attitude toward Israel is liable to deteriorate?

"At the moment there is no sign of a crisis. But we must not be complacent. The two pillars of the state are the Israel Defense Forces and the U.S., Dimona [the site of Israel's nuclear reactor] and Washington. [Israel] must do all we can to maintain the alliance with America. A major crisis at the wrong time could be a disaster, a disaster."

Do you feel that as an Israeli-American of influence your mission is to prevent that crisis?

"You said it."

Saban "said he caught the political bug in the mid-1990s, when he felt that support for Israel was slipping in the United States."

Saban, in a 2004 New York Times interview[3], ascribed his interest in politics to his concern for Israel: "I'm a one-issue guy and my issue is Israel."

So, I think it is fair to say that this Jewish Cancer within American politics is only starting to show it’s seedy underbelly of power, money and control, from the House of Representatives, to the US Senate to the Whitehouse and Secretary of State. We now have links from Harman, to Clinton, to Pelosi. All very powerful people who have the President's ear. Given that Clinton is Secretary of State, and Pelosi’s position, sorta makes one wonder how much control he (and Israel) has on US Middle East Policy, In other words, just who is running the country, President Obama whom the American people voted for? Or a foreign Government of Israel whom NO American voted for!

Hamas & Clinton & Netanyahu-Peace Dance Begins

Devil is in the details, always. Two days ago I wrote here about Netanyahu suddenly abandoning the mantra that Hamas must recognise Israel as a pre-condition to talks, see below:

Bethlehem - Ma'an - Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu is no longer demanding that Palestinians recognize Israel as a "Jewish state" as a precondition for talks, according to a statement sent to Ma'an.

The prime minister's media advisor said that the Netanyahu "has never set this as a pre-condition for the opening of negotiations and dialogue with the Palestinians."

However, the statement went on to say that "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is insistent in his approach that recognition of Israel as the national state of the Jewish People is a matter of substance and principle that enjoys wide recognition in the country and around the world, without which it will not be possible to advance the diplomatic process and reach a peace settlement."

This is very telling. What it means is that talks will go forward, those talks will include Hamas, either directly or indirectly. My guess is that at this point it will be indirectly, through an intermediary. The signs have been taking shape. One big hint for me personally was when Gerry Adams went to Gaza. If you recall, Israel said he would not get in unless he said he would not meet with members of Hamas. He refused to give that stipulation and so Israel banned him for entry. Next day, suddenly he was inside Gaza. This after intervention by Tony Blair and most likely at the behest of Mitchell who Adams had met with a month prior in Washington when Adams going to Gaza was discussed. Additionally, Adams said he would be “reporting” to Mitchell after his visit. I believe the US government have asked for assistance from Adams. This is evident by the sudden reversal of the Israeli ban on his entry into Gaza. Afterall, Adams has a long history with both Blair and Mitchell, and on a lesser scale Hillary Clinton. Additionally he has met with Hamas and the PLO several times in the past, most recently in 2006.

Firstly, I can tell you that Hamas will never agree to this stipulation at this point in time and the US knows this. As for Israel and the US, Like it or not, Hamas has an electoral mandate, and as such should be included, otherwise nothing will ever come of any talks. To move forward without Hamas, would effectively say to the voting public that their elected officials AND their supporters and voters have no rights. Can't do this, it didn't work in Ireland and won't work in Palestine.

Then today I happened upon this article about Clinton saying that Hamas must recognise Israel, renounced violence and adhere to all previous agreements made by the PA. Upon first read you’d think this is in exact opposition to what Netanyahu said two days ago. However, look closer. What is really being said here is that “talks” can move forward without recognition, however, for the US to support the Palestinian government or fund such government, Hamas will have to agree to those terms. There will be a long time between those to point of “talks” and “government” of a Palestinian state. This would mean that the settlement issues and most of the serious issues Palestine has with Israel would be mostly resolved, before Hamas would be expected to meet those three requirements.

This is the peace process dance. It’s a process, and it will be a very long process at that. In Ireland it took many years, and the IRA did not disarm during talks or even after the Good Friday Agreement was voted for and partially implemented. I think the US is modelling much after the Irish peace process at this initial stage anyway. Clinton article below:

Clinton sets conditions on Palestinian govt with Hamas

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Wednesday the United States would not deal with or fund a Palestinian government that includes Hamas unless the Palestinians meet three international conditions.

"We will not deal with nor in any way fund a Palestinian government that includes Hamas unless and until Hamas has renounced violence, recognized Israel and agrees to follow the previous obligations of the Palestinian Authority," Clinton told the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs committee.

"We want to leave the door open" to including Hamas, Clinton said.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday urged Israel and the Palestinians to "step back from the abyss" and invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for separate talks in early June.

DURBAN II~USA to Attend?

Oh this is just brilliant I must say. African Americans have come together in numbers to press the Obama admin to attend Durban II. Looks like this is gaining some ground indeed and America needs to attend this conference. This is literally a war between the wants of the Jewish Lobby acting Agents of Israel, and the African Americans who are loyal to the USA and who voted for Obama 98% worth and they deserve to have their President's administration attend this event. HAARETZ: Senior U.S. officials in Washington and New York are leaning in favor of participating in the "Durban 2" UN-sponsored anti-racism conference scheduled to take place on April 20 in Geneva, diplomatic sources said on Sunday.

The diplomats, who share a close working relationship with the American delegation to the United Nations, informed leading Jewish officials in New York that Washington has increasingly become convinced of the need to dispatch representatives to the conference.

(Excellent!! Would love to see the faces of AIPAC, what a picture that would be!)

Israel plans on boycotting the conference for fear that it will turn into a platform for singling out Jerusalem for criticism over its policies in the Palestinian territories.

(Well perhaps if Israel was not a racist, apartheid theocracy statelet, there would be no need for them to worry about such things)

Leading figures in the organized American Jewish community have been lobbying Western ambassadors and European diplomats in the UN to dissuade their governments from participating in the Geneva summit.

A senior Jewish activist who took part in some of the discussions with Western diplomats told Haaretz that he would not be the least surprised if the U.S. indeed decides to send an official delegation. The official said that while the U.S. pledged it would not participate, it was not an adamant opposition.

Dozens of human rights groups and activists in the United States have petitioned President Barack Obama to rethink his decision to boycott the conference.

"The Durban Review Conference is one of the most important international platforms for discussing the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerances," the activists wrote in a letter to the White House.

"Given the brutal history of slavery and Jim Crow in the United States, your Administration has much to contribute to this discussion," the petition read.

"A boycott would be inconsistent with your policy of engagement with the international community... How can your Administration engage in any manner with the international community if it has no representation at the discussion table?"

Initial draft resolutions for the United Nations Durban II summit branded Israel as an occupying state that carries out racist policies. It now speaks only of concern about the negative stereotyping of religions and does not single out Israel for criticism, according to the officials.

Why the United States Should Stop Refusing to Participate in a Global Conference on Racism

Dear President Barack Obama,

We, the undersigned individuals and organizations dedicated to fighting racial injustice and promoting human rights domestically and globally received your recent decision to boycott the Durban Review Conference with profound disappointment.

Recognizing that your stated objections to the conference have been addressed, we are confident that your Administration will be reversing its decision in time to participate in the conference and its remaining preparatory meetings scheduled to take place in April.

Refusing to Discuss Racism on a Global Platform is Inconsistent with a Policy of Engagement with the International Community

As you know, the Durban Review Conference is one of the most important international platforms for discussing the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerances. Given the brutal history of slavery and Jim Crow in the United States, your Administration has much to contribute to this discussion. A boycott would be inconsistent with your policy of engagement with the international community. A policy of engagement requires discussion with governments and institutions even if one does not agree with them as demonstrated by your statement last week to the people and leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran that your Administration is committed to seeking "engagement that is honest and grounded in mutual respect." How can your Administration engage in any manner with the international community if it has no representation at the discussion table?

The United States Should be Fighting for the Strongest Protections against Racism

The Durban Review process has offered a sophisticated and comprehensive framework for advancing racial equality including concrete guidelines for addressing the link between poverty, racism, sexism, and multiple forms of discrimination; advancing migrant rights; addressing youth violence; providing access to quality education, health care, and adequate housing; and advancing transparent governance in the fight for racial equality. We expect your Administration will not only engage in the process but will also work to ensure that the final outcome offers the strongest and most comprehensive framework for eliminating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerances. This is critical for progress in the domestic and global fight for racial and economic justice.

Specific Objections Raised do not Warrant a Boycott

We are concerned by the reasons put forth by your Administration for its refusal to engage in the conference. Notwithstanding that changes have been made to accommodate your Administration's specific objections, we do not believe that these objections should warrant a decision to boycott the conference. As we mentioned before, you recently demonstrated your Administration's willingness to engage in dialogue with governments with which you do not always agree such as the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we applaud that decision. Why would your Administration pursue a different policy now that it is time to discuss how to fight and eliminate racism for people in the United States and the rest of the world? How can the United States affirm freedom of expression - even for hate speech - if it refuses even to be present to listen to the views of others?

The United States Must Not Attempt to Ignore our History of Slavery

We are troubled that your Administration pushed for the withdrawal of language related to reparations, reference to the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity, and the overall weakening of the efforts related to people of African Descent. We recall your own speech on March 18, 2008 that we need to "remind ourselves that so many of the disparities that exist in the African-American community today can be directly traced to inequalities passed on from an earlier generation that suffered under the brutal legacy of slavery and Jim Crow." We also urge you to consider the bill H.R. 40 reintroduced by Representative Conyers in January calling for the establishment of a commission to examine the institution of slavery and current forms of racial discrimination, as well as to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies. We believe it will help illuminate the importance of discussing these issues both in the United States and globally.

The United States Must Engage the Global Fight for Racial Justice in Good Faith

It is regrettable that your Administration made its current decision on whether to participate in the Durban Review Conference based on one meeting. One meeting is inadequate for meaningful engagement in the process especially since the process has been ongoing since 2006 not including the time and preparation put into the 2001 World Conference Against Racism (WCAR). The actions of your Administration leave the impression that you are willing to ignore an important opportunity to advance racial equality if it is politically expedient.

The Current Position of Non-Participation is worse than that of the Bush Administration

A boycott by your Administration would be the first time in recent history that the United States has refused to participate in a United Nations conference. This position is even more radical than that of the Bush Administration's as the former Administration at least attended the preceding conference on race before withdrawing. We hope that your Administration will not squander this important opportunity to push for racial equality on the global stage and will instead send a diverse and high-level delegation including representatives from the non-governmental community.

A United States Refusal to Discuss Racism Encourages Other Countries to do the same

The current decision by your Administration not only affects the United States, but also provides cover for other countries that are reluctant to engage in a meaningful discussion on advancing racial equality to boycott the discussion as well. A United States boycott would have a long-term damaging effect on the global fight against racism.

In closing, we are reminded again of a speech you made a year ago insisting that race is an issue that this nation cannot afford to ignore right now. We applauded your thought-provoking speech then as it echoed basic American values of equality and fairness and reminded us of the importance of engaging in mature and constructive dialogue on race. NO NUKES~Clinton in Talks with Australia~Israel a Holdout!

Australia, US to lay path for nuclear disarmament

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The United States holds high-level security talks with Australia as the longtime allies find a new convergence of views on the need to abolish nuclear weapons.

The session marks the first substantive talks between the Pacific nations since US President Barack Obama held a warm first summit with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at the White House two weeks ago.

The talks "will cover, in depth, a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters Wednesday after meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith.

Smith and Clinton will be joined in Thursday's talks by Australian Defense Minister Joel Fitzgibbon and US Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The talks come days after Obama delivered a major speech in Prague where he laid out a vision for a world without nuclear weapons.

The speech was likely music to the ears of Rudd -- described by some analysts as a "political soulmate" to Obama -- who last year charted out his own path for nuclear disarmament.

Smith and Fitzgibbon, in a statement before heading to the US capital, described Obama's speech as "landmark."

They said the Washington talks "will include Australia and the United States' shared goal of a world free of nuclear weapons."

Rudd set up a commission of experts co-chaired by Australia and Japan who will seek to lay the groundwork for next year's review conference of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

The last review conference of the treaty in 2005 ended in disarray, with then US president George W. Bush's administration unenthusiastic about entering international commitments on disarmament.

Obama has sharply changed course, saying he will ask the Senate to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, which bars any nuclear explosions for any purpose around the world.

But a number of countries remain holdouts to the test ban treaty, among them China, India, Israel, North Korea and Pakistan.

Syria Lays Down the Law for Peace Agreement with Israel

Tell it like it is Syria:

Damascus, 2 April (AKI) - The chairman of Syria's foreign relations department in the parliament, Sulayman Haddad, outlined Syria's conditions to make peace with Israel in an interview with Adnkronos International (AKI) on Thursday ahead of the visit by Italy's foreign minister Franco Frattini, due to arrive in the country on Monday.

Syria's conditions for peace with Israel are, "the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, the return of all Palestinian refugees to their homes, the restitution of the Golan Heights and compensation for all the years of Israeli exploitation of the territory," Haddad told AKI.

He also welcomed Frattini's visit and underlined the importance of diplomatic relations between Rome and Damascus. At the same time, however, he doubted Italian mediation could succeed in changing or softening Israel's position in regards to the peace process with Syria.

"Mediation is not the problem, rather, it is that one of the parties does not want peace and does not want to resolve the conflict in the Middle East."

Rhetorical question: Any guesses as to who that "party" is? Why it's Israel, the one that wants to kill all Arabs and is the greatest threat to world peace. The one with nuclear weapons from America who just elected a maniacal bunch of racist killers.

Haddad also recalled the words of Israel's new foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman in an interview with an Israeli daily, saying the Jewish state would not withdraw from the Golan Heights.

Well, we can all dream of the day Leiberman gets his racist arse dragged kicking and screaming off Palestinian land. I'd pay good money for a ring side seat for that one!

Lieberman's remarks "forces us to remain faithful to the resistance. It is the only way that will produce any results with Israel," said Haddad.

Sadly this is very true, the only thing Israel understands is violence.

Following the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel captured the Syrian territory of the Golan Heights and annexed it in 1981. Syria and Israel have been technically at war ever since.

Last May, Israel and Syria launched peace talks aimed at a comprehensive peace agreement, under the auspices of Turkey.

Negotiations reached a stalemate in September after the resignation of former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert.

Syria then withdrew from the talks in protest against Israel's three-week military offensive in the Gaza Strip in late December 2008 and January 2009 in which at least 1,330 Palestinians were killed and 5,400 others were injured.

The offensive sparked outrage across the Arab world and worldwide protests against Israel.

USA to Help Israel Deflect Human Rights Abuse Accusations

The US will run for a seat in the UN Human Rights Council in order to "change" it. Translation=No more critisizing of Israel will be allowed.

Well, this really makes me sick. here comes the USA to defend Israel once again. So much for "hope and change" And notice how it comes after the Gaza genocide? I wonder if this move is so that when the human rights abuses begin to come hard and fast at Israel, the US will deflect them for Israel. What a disgrace this move is and totally transparent.

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President Barack Obama's administration announced Tuesday it will run in May for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council -- a body the Bush administration had shunned.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the US ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, said the United States wanted a seat to help reform the body from within, according to the State Department.

"We're very committed to bring about the serious reform that the council needs," she said.

"The principal problem is there has been too little focus on the most egregious abuses of human rights ... and too much focus, unbalanced focus we believe, on other issues that don't merit the amount of time," she added.

"Yes, of course, we mean Israel."

The next round of elections to the Council will be held on May 15 in the UN General Assembly in New York when members will be elected to a three-year term.

Howard Berman, the Democratic chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the United States could no longer afford to be on the sidelines after the body had "become increasingly dysfunctional and politicized.

But the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a leading anti-Semitism watchdog, expressed concern over the decision.

"ADL had urged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to seek reform of the Council before deciding to join it," it said in a statement.

WARNING~Israeli Spies, AIPAC, Iran and American Foreign Policy

Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, whose nation currently holds the rotating EU presidency, told his country's Lidove Noviny newspaper that the union was "not happy with some of the steps of the Israeli government, namely construction works close to Jerusalem but also access to Gaza, which is today very limited."

Meanwhile in Prague, President Shimon Peres met with Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek Tuesday and warned him that "it would be a mistake on the EU's part to give Israel the cold shoulder" and delay the planned upgrade of EU-Israel relations "due to our war on terror."

"Israel is at the forefront of the war on terror," he said. "This is a war that we fight not only for our people, but for the entire world. Today terror is in Israel and tomorrow terror will be in Europe."

Peres tell EU president: Europe must keep eyes open for Iranian threat

President Shimon Peres met with Czech President Vaclav Klaus in Prague on Monday and told his counterpart, who currently holds the rotation European Union presidency that "the EU must keep it's eyes open for the dangers lurking – Nuclear Iran is a danger to the world and to Europe."

And back in America what is the Jewish Lobby doing? Well, it's doing this:

Now, what is happening here is very important for people to understand, this is Israel using hasbara and the “politics of Fear” attempting to get it’s way by perpetuating fear. Always pointing the finger at Iran, which, is Israel’s “cash cow” or “golden goose” for getting Billions of American Taxpayer money, AND keeping the Middle East in a constant state of war!!

People must begin to look closely at the paranoia propaganda Israel spews, and start asking themselves who it benefits. Just like George Bush after 9-11, Israel is attempting to continue the “politics of fear”, using claims of “threats” and “fear” in an effort to amass support for attacking Iran and creating close ties with Israel and its agenda. Now, I find this perpetual “Iran Bashing” by Israel to be quite stunning, given the situation in Pakistan and to a lesser degree Afghanistan. What is America’s best interest here? Is it to do whatever Israel wants it to, or is it best for America and Americans to forge their own policy.

Let’s take Afghanistan first, just today I read where Clinton backs bringing in “moderate” Taliban;(translation we failed miserably and want to give the country back to the Taliban) she said “that Taliban members in Afghanistan who abandoned extremism must be granted an "honourable form of reconciliation."

Now correct me if I am wrong, but America invaded Afghanistan to remove the Taliban. Now, as things are not going well and the US cannot win, they want to talk to them and place them back in power. Massive failure #1 of Bush’s “Politics of Fear” And where did all this get America? It got America nowhere, except many US Soldiers and civilians being killed. The Taliban will be re-installed in Afghanistan, and then Afghans will be forgotten. America, no doubt, will tell some fantastic great story of how it freed them and had victory and the “moderate” Taliban are good and nice people.

Now, let’s look at Pakistan shall we? Let’s look at it in light of what Peres said to the EU president in his “effort” to win back a summit that the EU president is now cancelling, due to Israel’s genocide and war crimes in Gaza and it’s refusal to stop expanding settlements. Here is what Peres said in his attempt to use “politics of Fear” to sway the EU President. He said "the EU must keep its eyes open for the dangers lurking – Nuclear Iran is a danger to the world and to Europe."

Yet, here we are with Pakistan self destructing before our very eyes, and Pakistan HAS nuclear weapons! Iran does not and would be years away from having the bomb, IF they are trying to make one! Remember, Iran is Israel’s fixation, because Iran does not take any Israeli shit. This pisses Israel off and they have a history of going after anyone who does not like them. First they vilify them and then they begin the spinning until the spin becomes truth. It is important for Israel to get America to back this fixation on Iran. Then, through the assistance of America the rest of the world can then be targeted and turned against Iran until Israel finally has the support to commit genocide on Iran just as it did in Gaza.

So, just do a Google for the word "Pakistan” and then ask yourself which is the biggest threat to world peace. Iran or Pakistan. Now, I am not calling for any invasion of Pakistan here, I am pointing out realities which exist today. Then ask yourself why for the last few years Israel has been working feverishly to attack Iran and hoping for US assistance in doing so. I’ll tell you why, because, God forbid, if the US normalizes relationships with Iran, then that places Israel in a position of having no “whipping boy” in the Middle East to scare America with! Ah, but more importantly it would mean that the US would not have to be giving BILLIONS of dollars to Israel for so called “protection” which I always find laughable as Israel has the 4th largest army in the world AND nuclear weapons!

The next step to understanding may be difficult. But if you can imagine you are an Arab state like Iran, and you just witnessed yet AGAIN, how Israel is such a war monger (with the backing of America) against Arabs and Israel keeps threatening you and playing war games on your borders with flyovers and pretend bombing runs. Then would you not want to protect your country from lunatics with Nuclear weapons who have demonstrated for years how they kill at will? The answer is to take away ALL nuclear weapons, that includes ISRAEL!!

Iran has been demonized by Israel (and Bush) for many years, and Bush joined in with a zeal that was truly amazing. American media has failed the public greatly and fed the “politics of fear”. After all, you have 24 hour news cycles now like CNN, Fox (Faux”) and MSNBC plus many others, only the “big” scary stories get the viewers. So ramp up the “politics of fear” for the ratings.



I remember once I was in America about 2 years after 9-11 and it amazed me that scrolling across the bottom of the 24 hour news program was a “terror alert warning system” that continually scrolled at the bottom of the screen day in, and day out. There were several levels, with red being the most heightened level, down to green being the safe level. I noticed it never left orange, just under the red zone. No matter how many days or months passed, it never got to green, and for the most part remained on orange with a few “reds” thrown in by Bush, just in case people were getting too used to feeling safe under orange.

Now, this is exactly what Israel does constantly. Rattle the saber of war against Iran using fear tactics, trying to continue the Bush “Politics of Fear” to hopefully engage the USA into some strike against Iran, because that is what Israel wants. So, I say again, to normalize relations with Iran would be devastating to Israel on many levels as it would take away Israel’s “cash cow” for American money and it would also force Israel to make peace. Something Israel is diametrically opposed to, as all its actions prove it wants to remove Arabs by continuing to take more and more land, thus making any peace deal vastly impossible.

And one important factoid, we must not forget that it was America who installed the Shah of Iran. It was America’s misunderstanding as usual of another culture that created the ensuing mess we now have in Iran.

Iran is not the “demon” Israel and Bush want you to believe it is. Are they different? Yes they are. But so is Russia, so is China, for that matter so is Israel, an Apartheid state where only Jews have full rights, but we are not being asked to attack any of them are we? Sadly, it was during the Bush I & II Administrations there were several very REAL opportunities for Iran and America to become allies. A chance for a new direction in Iran that would see it become normalised and a friend to America, but that was not in the interest of Bush or Israel so they used Iran on many occasions and then abused it. Iran actually helped America several times, but learned very quickly that it could not trust Bush/America. Now America has perhaps lost the best opportunity for a meaningful relationship with Iran, thanks to Bush SR and Bush Jr and the Zionists, they used Iran and then tossed away several very real chances for change. How many Americans ever saw the scenes of hundreds of Iranian men and women on the streets of Iran, crying for America on 9-11? How many Americans were even aware of this fact? Probably ZERO as it would not have fit into the Israeli, Bush, US media’s plans of vilifying Iran.

For an excellent recent example of this in action, check out what happened to an American reporter from New York writing for the New York Times, the reporter himself being jewish no less. But look at what the Zionist Flying Monkeys who work for Israel do if you DARE say anything remotely nice about any aspect of Iran:

A row has broken out over allegations of antisemitism at the New York Times, America's most vaunted name in journalism and a newspaper with a large Jewish readership.

The storm centres on a column about Jews in Iran written by New York Times journalist Roger Cohen and a cartoon attacking the recent war in Gaza.

The newspaper, and Cohen in particular, has been accused of being too critical of Israel and an apologist for Iran and its leader, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Cohen's column was written from Iran about the country's small Jewish minority. His piece acknowledged the difficulties the group experienced and portrayed them as part of an Iranian society that he said was more tolerant, democratic and sophisticated than many American critics allowed.

Such sentiments might seem uncontroversial, but in America no one touching on issues around Israel or antisemitism escapes close scrutiny. Cohen was attacked by Jewish writers and bloggers. The Jerusalem Post dubbed him "misled", while the Atlantic Monthly called him "credulous". Others went much further. "The Nazis had Theresienstadt, their 'model' concentration camp used to 'persuade' the gullible that Jews and others who aroused the ire of the Nazis were being treated well. Shutting down the current US v Rosen and Weissman case before it goes to trial would similarly short circuit rule of law in the United States. It was shown in the UK so if you live outside you most likely would not have seen it and especially in America I doubt it would have been shown as Americans must be kept in the dark for the “Politics of Fear” to work. The documentary shows interviews with a wide range of world leaders who reveal the inner dealings of all governing administrations from the past thirty years, both from within Iran’s own administration and from the Western counterparts. These include Vladimir Putin, Jimmy Carter, Mohammad Khatami, Bill Clinton, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Colin Powell, Ali Larijani, Farah Pahlavi, Madeline Albright, and Javier Solana among many others. In summation, I would hope that the Obama Administration will shake free from Israel’s control and seek the best outcome for America and the rst of the world, which would be to normalise relations with Iran, seek new dialogue, take the baby steps over the next eight years to create and forge a new relationship.It will take time as Iran no longer trusts America, for that matter much of the rest of the world could also be included in that fact of distrust for American foreign policy, thanks to years of American neocons working with Israeli Zionists! Will there be many set backs forging peace with Iran? Certainly! The "Nay Sayers" said the same thing about the peace process in Ireland, which I lived though. They were wrong then and they are wrong now! For America to continue down this road to war at the behest of Israel, serves only Israel, not America. By creating a new Middle East through relations with Iran, will force Israel to make peace quicker than you can say “Kosher” and also save America from having to shell out billions of American taxpayers money to Israel, only to maintain the Israeli status quo of “Politics of Fear” which benefits only Israel.
