GEORGE MITCHELL SHOULD JUST STAY HOME

So George Mitchell visited the Evil Rogue State of Israel in another US groveling move to beg Israel to be nice and engage in a process that might lead to peace. Of course, Israel had other ideas as usual. They are not done stealing yet, not done ethnic cleansing Palestinians yet, not done turning East Jerusalem into a “Palestinian Free Zone” yet.

I’m beginning to think it is a bad idea for Mitchell to visit the Rogue State, every time he does, it only spurs the Zionists into further cementing their illegal claim to more Palestinian land as is evident in today’s report below:

Israel has agreed to upgrade to university status a college built in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, a move critics see as placing another obstacle in the path of U.S.-backed efforts to resume stalled peace talks.

The decision by Defense Minister Ehud Barak formalized a 2005 cabinet ruling to that effect but also coincided with the latest visit to the region by U.S. peace envoy George Mitchell for talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

See what I mean? Mitchell=Land loss… Maybe he should just stay home until the US decides to actually get serious with Israel and show them no mercy regarding the settlement issue and more. Otherwise he is just costing Palestinians more pain and suffering. Not to mention creating a very large carbon footprint for nothing…..more:

A statement from Barak's office confirmed that on Wednesday he had "given his authorization for the Ariel College to become a university center"

The college of more than 8,000 students was built in the 1980s in one of the biggest Jewish settlements on land occupied since the Arab-Israeli war of 1967.

Barak's decision would help the college obtain academic credentials that would enable it to expand research and increase its student body to some 20,000 in the next decade, said Rinat Saguy, a spokeswoman for Ariel College.

So that’s 20,000 more land squatting illegal murdering Zionist settlers the West Bank can expect to see soon after this rubbish begins. But never mind, Israel has it all figured out:

Israel says it plans to keep the Ariel settlement under any peace deal that creates a Palestinians state. Even Palestinian leaders acknowledge such settlements could be annexed by Israel in return for a Palestinian state getting more land elsewhere. (this must be a reference to "Abbas the Acceptor" here)

See? I told you Israel has it all figured out. Their answer is to carve up historical Palestine and take all the areas it wants, then whatever is left over they might just give to Abbas so he can call it a “Palestinian State” with newly created borders by Israel no less!

Israel & Obama Have a Deal, But What?

When ever I hear of Israel “suddenly” deciding to offer a “concession” to Obama, I start to worry immediately and look for the real reason. For instance, why would Israel suddenly be publicizing that they will remove “in one day” 23 settlements? What a great sound-bite, but let’s look deeper. Firstly, it is important to note that these “settlements” are actually small horrid little outposts, like Zionist camping grounds existing on Palestinian land. They are NOT the big shiny impressive ones with lots of settler cockroaches living in big beautiful Israeli built homes over looking the hovels of the former residents of said development. No, we are not talking about “those” settlements.

So, there is something amiss, and, upon reflection, I can some up with a few reasons for Israel’s very “sudden” public decision to remove “in one day” 23 illegal “campgrounds” I mean “settlements.”

Israel never does anything for “right or moral” reasons. Only self gratifying selfish ones that advance the rogue Zionist state’s agendas. So:

1. Either Israel is offering this in the hopes it will satisfy Obama and allow Israel to keep the big settlements.

2. Or worse, it’s a token to give Obama so that Obama can claim some sort of victory on the settlement issue and now start demanding double time movement from HAMAS on accepting Israel as a Jewish state, translation, attempting remove the Right of Return for Palestinians who still have keys in their hands.

3. Or, perhaps it is all part of a trade from Israel to Obama, in order to secure Obama’s blessing for an Israeli strike on Iran. Let us not forget that early on Israel said that any peace deals with Palestine would be linked to progress on what Israel sees as needing to happen to Iran. In other words a military strike. See HERE where they link I/P peace to Obama dealing with Iran. So, if Israel is moving on the issue of Campgrounds, I mean settlements, than what deal has been struck, one wonders...

Either way, it’s a ruse by Israel to get something much bigger than what it offers. That’s the “Zionist Style” of negotiation in a nut shell. here's the story:

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel plans to remove in a single day all 23 unauthorized settler outposts slated for evacuation in the occupied West Bank, a move that would meet a long-standing pledge to Washington, a newspaper said on Tuesday.

The report in Haaretz gave no date for removing the outposts, where some of the most militant settlers in the West Bank live, but said the military held an exercise last week to prepare for their evacuation.

Haaretz, a left-leaning newspaper, said the military was preparing to "forcibly evacuate 23 illegal outposts in one day. The plan was formulated by the security establishment, with the knowledge of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."

Netanyahu has so far refused to commit to a total freeze, in the most serious rift between Israel and the United States, its main ally, in a decade.

In May, Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai said the removal of the outposts, often a cluster of caravans on isolated hilltops built without government authorization, had become a "central issue" for the Netanyahu's administration.

COMMITMENT
The Defense Ministry says it will not reveal the locations of all the outposts to maintain an element of surprise but they include those built after March 2001, a group that Israel committed to remove during the administration of former U.S. president George W. Bush.

The evacuation is expected to be met with resistance from the settlers. Wallerstein said that some 8,000 people live at the outposts.

Bethlehem – Ma’an – Israel’s Attorney General has ordered police to investigate whether the World Zionist Organization (WZO) allocated private Palestinian land for construction in the illegal Israeli settlement of Ofra, north of Ramallah.

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Attorney General Menahem Mazuz ordered the probe after five Palestinian landowners filed a petition with the Court of Justice to stop construction of five settler houses.

The newspaper said construction was well underway when the petition was submitted, with the help of two Israeli human rights groups, Yesh Din and B'Tselem. By the time of the hearing, the houses were already inhabited.

During the hearing, the Israeli state's lawyers conceded that the buildings were on private Palestinian land, the newspaper said, citing a Channel Two television report.

Israel’s Justice Ministry wrote a letter to Yesh Din stating that it was launching an investigation.

The expropriation of Palestinian land in the West Bank for settlements often takes place through a series of bureaucratic transactions that obscure the overall project of settlement expansion.

The newspaper also said the settlers who purchased the land showed the court their contracts with the settlement division of the WZO. These documents stated that the land was transferred to the WZO by the Civil Administration official in charge of “abandoned property” in the West Bank.

The WZO’s settlement division in turn transferred the property to Ofra's “partnership organization,” which sold it to the settlers, the report stated. source

Israel Has Big Problem

I recently wrote a piece covering the strategy of any peace deal,pointing out the huge problem Israel has created with regards to any real peace prospects. This problem is self created and is a much more of a serious problem regarding any solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict than the unity of Fatah and HAMAS. Today Haaretz has also touched on this subject as well:

Why should settlers have to pay the price for peace between Israel and the Palestinians?

The answer, in short: Because of what the settlement movement has cost us, cost Israel. And because of what it is costing Israel now.

1. The cost in dollars

The settlement movement has cost Israel some $100 billion over the past 40 years.

Setting aside the considerable waste and graft in building projects in the West Bank and Gaza, the cost to Israel's development has been incalculable. Settlement in remote areas has siphoned off critically needed funds for investment in employment, infrastructure, housing and social welfare in central Israel, the Galillee and the Negev.

Huge expenditures on West Bank road construction, including parallel highways intended only for use by Israelis, and roads built at great expense to remote and often illegal settlements, have taken a human toll as well. They have put off the upgrading of dangerous roads [designated "red highways"] within Israel, adding materially to one of the country's most lethal problems. Last year more than 440 people died on Israel's highways, more than 12 times the number of Israelis killed in terror attacks.

2. The cost to Israel's security

For decades, the enormous burdens of guarding settlements, policing roadblocks and maintaining the far-reaching bureaucracy of occupation have robbed the IDF of vitally needed resources of time and funding for military training.

In recent months, as Haaretz military commentator Amir Oren has reported, Prime Minister Netanyahu's wrangling with President Obama over settlement construction has been doing damage to the IDF's capability to face the threat posed by Iran.

3. The cost to Israeli democracy and the rule of law

The unwillingness of the settlement movement to brook compromise, even when in direct defiance of national consensus, and its explicit threats to exploit Israel's precarious political system to topple any democratically elected government which makes significant progress in negotiations with the Palestinians, places the very nature of Israeli democracy in doubt.

The double standard which for decades has favored settlers with inexpensive housing, heavily subsidized social services, and blind-eye building permits has long been accompanied by a kid-gloves approach regarding settler violence against Palestinians and their property.


4. The cost to Israel's diplomatic credibility

Both in established settlements and in outposts acknowledged by Israel as illegal, settlers and settlement planners have covertly bent and distorted zoning procedures, military directives, and government decrees in order to boost settlement, block Palestinian construction, agriculture, and access to employment, and effectively neutralize measures intended to foster Israeli-Palestinian peace progress.

Measures aimed at driving a secure wedge between settlers and Palestinians have had the effect of tarnishing Israel's international image, and have kept many nations from normalizing and strengthening diplomatic ties with Israel.

The settlers' rejection of all territorial compromise renders moot all proposals similar to the Arab League peace initiative.

5. The cost to Israel's relationship with the U.S.

With every move of ostentatious defiance mounted by the Netanyahu government, the Obama administration finds the Palestinian Authority a more reliant, cooperative, and businesslike partner for diplomacy and West Bank security.

The gratuitous machismo characterizing many of the declarations of right-wing parties, in particular the shrill back-benchers of Netanyahu's Likud and members of Avigdor Lieberman's indictment-shadowed Yisrael Beiteinu, has done little to win domestic backing in Israel, but has landed with dramatic and destructive effect in Washington.

Estonian project to develop E-government in Palestine

The first part of the Estonian Foreign Ministry’s development aid project for introducing the Palestinian National Authority to Estonia’s experiences in developing e-government ended earlier this week. Within the framework of the first part of the project, an expert group from the Estonian e-Governance Academy spent last week in Palestine to get an overview of the how Palestine’s new e-government is developing and to establish future forms of co-operation.

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet stated that the project came to life thanks to the interest Palestine showed in learning about Estonia’s experiences in developing an e-government. “Using up-to-date information and communication technology solutions will help with establishing essential e-services for citizens, and this will help the establishment of good and transparent governing standards,” Paet emphasised, saying that good governance is a requirement for the development of a nation. “This first co-operation project creates a good basis and opportunities for future co-operation projects focused on modernising Palestine’s public sector,” he added.

The expert group that spent last week in Palestine included Arvo Ott, Liia Hänni and Hannes Astok. “The next step is for the Palestinian Authority to make several strategic decisions regarding information and communication technology infrastructure as well as the development of e-services for citizens,” said Hannes Aastok upon returning from Palestine. “We met Palestinian government officials and representatives from IT firms who felt a sincere interest in how relations between the public and private sectors are arranged in Estonia to support the development of this essential sector,” said Astok.

The project for introducing Estonia’s e-experiences will continue in September with the second part, which will entail 20 directing officials from the Palestinian National Authority coming to Estonia for a week-long training at the e-Governance Academy. source

Well, well, let us all see if America has anything to say about this like they did about Iran. Al-Jazeera news television station has been banned by Abbas from operating in the West Bank. Yup, the television station has been taken off the air because it dared to air an allegation from a top PA official against Abbas, you can read it here. So much for free speech or even news. Abbas must protect his kingship at all costs including banning the media, Instead of confronting and proving the allegations are wrong. Al-Jazeera banned by P.A.

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Al-Jazeera television has been banned from operating in Palestinian territory.

The Qatar-based Arabic news channel was banned in the West Bank by the Palestinian Authority Wednesday, after the government accused it of incitement for broadcasting allegations against PA President Mahmoud Abbas, according to news reports.

The allegations broadcast Tuesday and attributed to a senior Fatah official claimed that Abbas conspired with Israel to kill Yasser Arafat in 2003. source

Bethlehem- Israel's air force used helicopters to drop fliers warning Palestinians to stay away from the Gaza border wall on Monday, residents.

"You have been warned. We urge residents of the Strip to keep a 300 meter distance from the fence," the fliers read.

Commenting on the message, a Gazan citizen told Ma’an, “Israel is seeking a new immigration of the Palestinians especially that the warning is not to passersby, but to residents living near the borderline. There are homes which are less than tens of meters away from the borderline, and there are agricultural lands close to the border fence.”

Twelve-year-old Muhammad Dughmush from the Tel Al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City was injured by a box of fliers dropped by Israeli choppers. According to Muawiya Hassanein, director of Ambulance and Emergency Services at the Palestinian Health Ministry, the boy received first aid at the Jordanian hospital before he was transferred to Ash-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, suffering bruises along his back.

The fliers were dropped over the homes of residents in Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, Ynet said, as well near communities in the south and central regions near Khan Younis, Kerem Shalom and Rafah.

In a statement, the Israeli military confirmed that it dropped the leaflets, warning that it "will operate against all those who approach the fence, due to the threat that they pose to the civilians of the State of Israel." linky link

Today it has been reported that Israel has invaded a West Bank town, firing weapons and rounding up people to "question" translation= "torture, threaten, intern."

Now I want to point out that this is yet another act of war, just like the continued siege of Palestine. If Palestine had the capability of entering parts of Israel to "round up" IDF soldiers who murdered civilians and children in order to "question them", just how would that be reported? Answer: "Palestinian Terrorists Kidnap Israelis"

Tulkarem – Israeli forces on Sunday stormed the northern West Bank town of Anabta, east of Tulkarem, firing stun grenades and bullets into the air.

Palestinian security sources told Ma'an that invading Israeli forces handed out 20 warrants to local residents, informing them they must appear for questioning by Israeli intelligence.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops stormed the Tulkarem Refugee Camp and handed out five similar notices. source

IDF Terrorists Raid West Bank Villages

Israeli troops raided the West Bank city of Jenin and several nearby villages on Wednesday night.

Palestinian security sources said that Israeli forces overran the villages of At-Tayba and Al-Araqa, west of Jenin, and searched the area amid gunfire. No arrests were reported.

The same sources added that Israeli forces raided the towns of Al-Harthiyah, Rummana, and Zabuba.

Witnesses contacted Ma’an’s correspondent in Jenin saying that the Israeli forces used stun grenades during the raids.source

PA Files Suit Against Israel Land Theft

Jerusalem – The Palestinian prime minister’s advisor on Jerusalem affairs Hatim Abdul Qader said his office would take legal action on Tuesday to stop Israel from seizing more Palestinian land to expand the West Bank settlement of Ma’ale Adumim.

After a meeting with legal team on Monday, Abdul Qader released a statement confirming that the attorneys have been given the green light to file the required cases after being authorized by the local municipal councils of the Palestinian towns of Abu Dis and As-Sawahira Ash-Sharqiyya, and the residents who own the land slated for confiscation.

The statement added that an initial two objections would be submitted to Israeli Civil Administration in the West Bank, one of which will be against Israeli Internal Minister Eli Yishai’s decision to seize lands and properties owned by Palestinians who have documents that prove ownership. The other objection will be against local authorities in Ma’ale Adumim itself to try and stop its expansion at the expense of Palestinian land.

These two contestations will be followed by an appeal to Israeli High Court of Justice, the statement added.

Abdul Qader expects that these objections will delay confiscation for at least two years during which there will be a land survey, and aerial photographs to be bought from an Israeli company. There will also be a structural demographic plan for the towns of Abu Dis and Al-Ezariyya to prove that they need to expand on these lands.link

Israeli Interior Minister Eli Yishai has decided to approve recommendations by a special committee within the Israeli Interior Ministry to expand the illegal West Bank settlement of Ma’ale Adumim by 12,000 dunums (12 million square meters).

Expansion will include 6,000 housing units to be built between the Ma’ale Adumim and Qedar settlements, it was announced on Sunday morning. more here

According to the Israeli military, the Palestinians were taken from towns east of Nablus and north of Ramallah.

Nine Palestinians were seized the previous night.

Israel begins the construction of new settlements inside the Palestinian territories in defiance of preconditions for resuming peace talks in the region.

"The works aim to build 60 housing units for Orthodox religious Jewish families right next to the Palestinian neighborhood of Arab al-Sawahra," the anti-settlement Peace Now spokeswoman, Hagit Ofran, told AFP on Monday.

The construction which was approved in 2000 "began two months ago as part of development of East Talpiot," she added.

The area is one of a dozen illegal settlements that Israel has built in east Jerusalem (al-Quds). Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War, declaring the city its "eternal, undivided capital."

More than 285,000 Israelis currently live in the Jewish settlements which are considered as illegal by the international community.

"They aim to complete a belt of Jewish neighborhoods that will surround east Jerusalem and we are against this project, which is harming the hopes for peace," said Ofran.

The report came as acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas ruled out the possibility of peace talks without an Israeli settlement freeze.

Denouncing the new settlement activity, Abbas said that Israel is defined by the borders it maintained before the 1967 Middle East War, "not one centimeter more."

He said the issue was "extensively discussed" during the November 2007 international conference in Annapolis, Ynet reported.

Abbas further reiterated that a complete halt in the construction of settlements is a prerequisite for resuming talks source

Palestinian Drives Car Into Israeli Police

"Two police officers were injured, one lightly in the legs but the other more seriously in the head, when a Palestinian man drove at them deliberately in his vehicle," Rosenfeld said.

The alleged attack on Saturday occurred at the Hezmeh checkpoint between northern Jerusalem and the West Bank, Micky Rosenfeld said.

"The 37-year-old Palestinian was arrested and said when questioned that his plan had been to kill the police officers."

But Walid al-Umari, Al Jazeera's Palestine bureau chief, reporting from Ramallah, said: "The information Al Jazeera has so far received indicates that the incident probably comes as a regular car accident."

The fact that the driver is an Arab and the incident took place at an Israeli military checkpoint may have left Israeli police with the impression that the police had been deliberately targeted, he said. source

presstv reports Israeli army forces have broken into Palestinian property including a kindergarten in the West Bank, kidnapping four teenagers.

The operation was carried out in two different West Bank villages on Thursday night.

Local sources said Israeli troops invaded the village of Beit Ruosh, near al-Khalil, broke into and searched dozens of homes before abducting four teenagers, International Middle East Media Center reported.

The forces also raided and searched homes and ransacked a local kindergarten in the village of Saffa.

Over the last two months, Israeli forces have kidnapped hundreds of Palestinians in the West Bank, including teenagers, in direct opposition to a security agreement with the Palestinian National Authority.

More than 11,500 Palestinians, including women and children, are imprisoned by Israel, suffering under harsh conditions in detention facilities.

Palestinian man killed by tear-gas canister in Bil'in

A Palestinian man was killed on Friday when Israeli forces opened fire on demonstrators in the West Bank village of Bil'in, near Ramallah.

Palestinian medical officials identified the man as 29-year-old Basem Ibrahim Abu Rahmeh, who had previously been listed in serious condition following a direct shot to the stomach from an Israeli fired tear-gas canister on Friday afternoon.

In a statement, Israel's military said it would investigate the incident.

Witnesses told Ma'an that the projectile was labeled "40 mm bullet, special/long range" in Hebrew, the same type of weapon that critically injured an American national, Tristan Anderson, at a demonstration in Ni'lin on 13 March 2009, when he was shot in the head from a distance of 60 meters.

Israeli Solders Arrest Italian & German

Israeli forces arrest a German and an Italian, who were accompanying Palestinian farmers at the al-Tuwani village in the West Bank.

The German national, Christian Beck, and the Italian national, Sara Pagani, were detained for no given reason.

Many Palestinian farmers rely on the presence of international human rights workers to protect them from Israeli settlers. Since Israeli soldiers in the area frequently ignore settler violence and rarely interfere to protect the Palestinian farmers, international volunteers provide support for the Palestinians.

Al-Tuwani is a village of 300 Palestinians located in South al-Khalil (Hebron). Residents make their living through farming, primarily wheat, barley, olives and grazing sheep.

Al-Tuwani is also one of several villages under daily threat from extremist Israeli settlers living in the area.source

GAZA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement urged on Thursday the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) to halt security coordination with Israel in the West Bank, and give a free hand to militants to resist the Israeli settlers.

Fawzi Barhoum, Hamas spokesman in Gaza said in a written statement sent to reporters that after frequent attacks of the settlers "on our people in the West Bank, security coordination must stop and resistance should resume."

On Wednesday, 48 Palestinians were injured, two were in critical conditions during clashes with Israeli soldiers near the southern West Bank city of Hebron. Hamas said the settlers were protected by the Israeli army.

"The serious Israeli escalation in Jerusalem as well as in Gaza and the West Bank, in particular the settlers attacks on our people in Hebron won't happen if there was no security coordination and there was resistance," said Barhoum.

The PNA and Israel has security agreements of coordination, upon the signed interim agreements reached in the 1990s. The PNA security forces had cracked down on militant groups in the West Bank, mainly Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

"Disarming the resistance has given full opportunity to the Zionist rappers to target our people in Hebron, in Selwan and in Jerusalem. It also encouraged them to escalate their attacks on our people," said Barhoum.

After right-wing leader Benjamin Netanyahu formed a right-wing majority coalition government, the Palestinian opposition calls to halt the peace talks and security coordination with Israel had mounted.

"I wonder why the Authority (in Ramallah) keeps the security coordination in spite of the ongoing daily attacks on our people in the West Bank and a fanatic Zionist government has been formed," said Barhoum.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams says he believes there can be progress in the Middle East after talking to Gaza's Hamas prime minister.

Mr Adams had an hour long meeting with Ismail Haniya on Wednesday night.

Mr Adams said he was encouraged by the dialogue. "Mr Haniya told me that Hamas wants a peace agreement," he said.

The meeting came at the end of a day in which Mr Adams met with civic, political and business leaders in Gaza.

He also toured parts of northern Gaza devastated by the Israeli operation in the Palestinian territory in January.

He said: "I welcome the opportunity to engage with so many people.

"I was pleased to speak directly with Mr Haniya. I outlined to him Sinn Féin's view that there should be a complete cessation of all hostilities and armed actions by all sides.

"The fact is that the people of Palestine and the people of Israel are destined to live side by side. I believe that most people want a peaceful accommodation.

"Following my meeting with Mr Haniya I believe that progress is possible.

"As I have said consistently there needs to be a dialogue between the people of Palestine and their leadership and the people of Israel and their leadership.

"That is what worked in Ireland."

On Tuesday, Mr Adams visited Sderot and Kfar Aza - a town and Kibbutz - in southern Israel that have been the targets for rocket attacks from Gaza.

However, before he set off for the Middle East Israeli officials said they would not meet him because he would not rule out meeting Palestinian militants.

They had threatened not to allow him to enter Gaza.

Unlike, former George Bush administration, the new leader of the White House is not against of Hamas's joining the Palestinian government, Haaretz reported. However, the U.S. supports the decision of the Middle East quartet - U.S., EU, UN and Russia - on refusing from any diplomatic negotiations with Hamas. The quartet insists on the movement to recognize Israel's right for existence and refuse from resistance.
