GAZA REPORT: "THE WALKING DEAD"

There have been a great many news articles, blogs, essays and reports written about the children of Gaza, what they have been through, what atrocities they have witnessed. And no doubt those of us who have followed the plight of Gaza since the last genocide on civilians last December believe we truly understand the depth of the human devastation we blog about and read about on a daily basis.... But I tell you that we really know nothing at all. It's in their eyes........

During my visit I spent time outside of Gaza city visiting a community centre with local friends who work with children. On this day I had the opportunity to see a group of children from a refugee camp. There are now some 60,000 refugees in the town and I was told that all the children I would see were homeless refugees and many of them are now orphans since the genocide Israel inflicted on the civilians of Gaza.

I was standing in a hallway beside a door where the children were to be assembled. Soon I began to hear lots of little footsteps coming up the stairs, as I stood waiting to see the first little face, they began to pass by me, one by one and I was overwhelmed with sadness and grief for them. It's in their eyes.........

As the children passed by, what I first noticed were their tiny faces, devoid of emotion or expression, robotic, and blank. Their eyes were lifeless with nothing behind them, no spark, no joy, just blank and expressionless, just like their tiny faces. They are the walking dead of Gaza, without one word spoken, their eyes were telling the story of the evil genocide they witnessed. These children are living casualties of Israel’s war crimes and Americas enabling of Israel’s wanton unbridled aggression. The walking dead will not appear in the Goldstone report, or on the casualty list from this war. But they are the walking dead of Gaza, it's in their eyes.....

I was told many of the children were emotionally damaged, even much older children had begun sucking their thumbs, and the younger ones had begun to sit and rock, over and over, as if in a trance, left stranded in a terrible place with no escape. Proof positive of the horrendous damage inflicted onto their tiny souls. Many had simply stopped speaking after the war, no longer verbal, no longer willing to engage. Their little mouths silenced from the horror of seeing their mothers murdered, homes destroyed and life as they knew it, come to a spectacular fiery end. Others felt the need to hide behind furniture or adults. I wondered how these children could ever begin to deal with having seen their parents slaughtered, along with everything that meant safety, family and home to them. Their entire world was rocked off its axis, and all of this was taken from them in a mere matter of seconds, only one year ago. All wiped out in the time it takes you to switch channels on your television or unwrap a chocolate bar. Think about that for one moment! Delivered with surgical precision from un-manned drones equipped with US made bombs, DIME missiles and white phosphorous from above; Very clean, very deadly, and very life destroying.

We think we understand what Israel is, and what it is capable of, what it did in Gaza. But we know nothing, we sit, we write, we organise, we do what we can, but it's just not enough! I am overwhelmed with the enormous realisation that an entire generation of damaged children lay squarely at the feet of humanity, and humanity has slammed the door in their faces. I am haunted by this........it's their eyes

As the world's super powers release press statement after press statement containing nothing but dry overstated useless platitudes; Explain to these broken children about borders, about UN resolutions ignored, about elections ignored, about democracy ignored, about land theft ignored, about settlements ignored, about Obama's pretty words to the world. Explain to them why Israel is allowed to drop DIME missiles and white phosphorous onto their homes and families with impunity. Explain to them why the UN allows this and why America backs this with 3 billion to Israel each year as these children barely exist, damaged, broken, and living in tents with raw sewage swimming past them. Explain to them why the world mobilises to help the children of Haiti, and why one year later no one comes to help the children of Gaza! And whilst your at it, explain it to me, because I see no humanity left within the rogue state of Israel, or it's blind supporter America, if it's people are capable of justifying such acts of barbarism onto children and then compounding it by not allowing aid or treatment or the slim chance of rebuilding a tiny part of their lives because of the illegal siege. There is no explanation in existence for all of this, save for an insane religious crusade of ethnic cleansing of all Palestinian human life forms, so that a racist gang of sub-human thieving religious thugs can colonize someone elses land. Hitler would be proud of what sprang from the ashes from his holocaust survivors.

These children need no words to tell their story, there is no language barrier between English and Arabic, no need for translation, and there is no need for verbal communication. It’s the eyes…….And those eyes will haunt you forever…..

But so far we have been discussing the walking dead, and they are the lucky ones, if there is such a thing. Back in May 2009 we reported on the little child below:

His entire family had been wiped out by Israel, he was the last remaining one, clinging to life by a thread. When we first met him he was in hospital in very critical condition. When Richard Goldstone was in Gaza investigating war crimes at the same hospital, he also met this little boy and was overwhelmed with grief for him as well. He desperately needed treatment that required him to leave Gaza and his doctors said that unless he got that treatment soon, then he was just merely waiting to die. Dear God this is so hard to report, but we met with his doctor in Gaza this trip and sadly we were told he has died because he was unable to leave Gaza for the treatment that could have saved his life.


I want to scream, I want to hit something....What can we do, who can save the rest of them? Who can fix the broken and dying children? What has happened to mankind? What kind of animal is so evil that a small dying boy is considered a threat, undeserving of medical treatment. His life worth nothing as gluttonous Israelis sit happy in their nice green stolen settlements on Palestinian land, stealing more and more, killing more and more, sucking up the water and resources for their own kind, whilst inflicting a quiet genocide on the rightful owners, even their children. This is pure evil in its most vile form, any "people" that condone this are no better then those who took out thousands in the World Trade Center. Evil is Evil. And this innocent little boy now joins his dead family, he's the last one gone. Murdered by the 4th largest army in the world using American made weapons, funding and full support.


Be they the dead, or the walking dead, these children have lost everything that made up the fabric of their tiny lives and their tiny world. This is what American tax payers get for their annual 3 billion sent to Israel; the death and destruction of thousands of little shattered lives. When you lay down in your nice safe bed each night, in your nice safe country, in your nice safe neighbourhood, as you tell yourself you are a decent God fearing, caring, Democratic and civilised country, may you remember the eyes of the children in Gaza whom you helped destroy.
And may their eyes haunt you forever………….

#2 GAZA TRIP~ "DAY ONE"

Today’s posts will be about the EU delegation (and some of my personal experiences) which I was privileged enough to witness as they arrived when we did and stayed at the same hotel. I will start with before the Delegation left for Gaza (via their news conference before the visit which I found online) and finish with what happened on Day One inside Gaza visiting the PLC building and meeting all the political parties inside Gaza.

I was able to shadow the Delegation somewhat when my own personal schedule allowed, and covered as much as possible from the press area at some of their events. Additionally we will post a few individual diaries on some of the members as well from their personal blogs and added to what we saw ourselves on the trip. We have also been working on a post about the orphaned refugee children, it is highly emotional and hard to write about, but that post will be up Wednesday Morning and it will break your heart into pieces. But for now, we cover the beginning of the EU Delegation at their press conference before the trip into Gaza. If you are not interested in this part, then skip past the two videos to the report on the PLC building and meeting the parties inside Gaza if you wish.

Get to know the Delegation leader, Sir Gerald Kaufman: In the first video you will view, the beginning speaker is Sir Gerald Kaufman, who was the leader of the Delegation into Gaza. Sir Gerald is a Jew whose grandmother was murdered by Nazis. He is a harsh critic of the State of Israel and its policies. Some of you may remember covering his speech in the House of Commons where he compared the actions of Israeli troops in Gaza to the Nazis who forced his family to flee Poland and urged the British government to impose an arms embargo on Israel. Additionally he said this:

"My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town a German soldier shot her dead in her bed.

"My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza.

"The present Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploits the continuing guilt from gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians."

He said the claim that many of the Palestinian victims were militants "was the reply of the Nazi" and added: "I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants."

My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza.

He accused the Israeli government of seeking "conquest" and added: "They are not simply war criminals, they are fools."

Kaufman called for a total arms ban on Israel.

“It is time for our government to make clear to the Israeli government that its conduct and policies are unacceptable and to impose a total arms ban on Israel.”He also branded the Israeli PM, the foreign minister and defense minister as war criminals.

“Is it not an incontrovertible fact that Olmert, Livni and Barak are mass murderers and war criminals?”

In a BBC interview Kaufman said about the rising Palestinian death toll: "Four Jews against 1,000 Palestinians - that is Nazism."

Kaufman, 64, called Israel's actions "not only barbaric but also stupid" because, he said, terrorism could not be defeated by force of arms.

"It failed in Lebanon and it will fail here," he said.

Mr Kaufman, whose Gorton constituency includes Levenshulme, will be speaking about his experiences in Gaza at an evening which is open to all.
It will take place on Thursday, January 28, from 7pm at Whalley Range Cricket Club on Kingsbrook Road, Whalley Range.

Part 1 The Beginning Press Conference

PART 1 Beginning Press Conference before going to Gaza. Speakers: Sir Gerald Kaufman British MP and outspoken critic of Israel, followed by Dr. Arafat Shoukri, European Campaign to End the Siege of Gaza and the Palestinian Return Centre London. He was the organiser of this Delegation and he stresses the need to move things on to a political solution to the siege and hope this EU delegation will be the beginning of a new movement. Then there are questions from the media followed by British MP Claire Short who resigned from Tony Blair’s Cabinet over the Iraq war. Next is Lord Ahmed Nazir at 7:25 and the video ends with Colin MacKenzie Low, a blind Member of Parliament who on the trip to Gaza visited with other blind people. He had some heart felt words for them.



PART 2 Beginning Press Conference before going to Gaza. in order: Richard Howitt, MEP, Baroness Jenny Tonge one of the most outspoken Brits on Palestine. She has made this cause a priority, excellent words form her. Next someone special to us in Ireland MP Jeremy Corbyn, he was right on Ireland and he’s right on Palestine, a true and good man who has been to Gaza 4 times. You can hear him at 5:18 on the video



ARRIVAL INTO GAZA AND VISIT TO PLC BUILDING AND MEETING ALL PARTIES IN GAZA: Next some photos of the arrival into Gaza and greeting Press Conference inside Rafah along with some commentary of what I saw when they arrived:

After the EU delegation got off the bus they were greeted by a long line of officials from Gaza. At the end of the line each member was given a small bouquet of Palestinain Carnations with a small card that said "Welcome to Palestine"



Upon arrival everyone was taken into a processing centre where they were all given a cold fruit drink and bottled water. Sir Gerald Kaufman said a few words and also members of the government of Gaza spoke breifly and welcomed him and the other Parliamentarians to Gaza. Sorry for the jumbled photo (below) but it was chaos inside with people both tired and elated at the final arrival onto Gazan soil. AS I was not part of the delegation I was unabel to get close to Kaufman when he was speaking. You can just see Sinn Fein MEP Bairbre DeBrun on the right hand side sitting down. She was one of the first to enter Gaza after the war and was returning to assess the current situation.





After this press conference the delegation boarded two busses and headed for Gaza city with a stop long the way at the bombed out PLC building to meet the Gaza MP's from all political parties. Here everyone was treated to a take away picnic like lunch. I say it was "like" an outside picnic, because we ate in the bombed out area of the building, the chamber where the politicians would have met to govern Gaza. This room, what remained of it, was exquisite. It was easy to see how beautiful it once had been. The entire experience was surreal, a beautiful gold coloured chandelier with thousands of cut glass droplets hung above us on what was left of the ceiling, the outer walls were gone as you can see in the photo below behind the people eating.



Anyone with any intelligence what so ever could clearly see what we were witnessing. Just witness the surgical strikes at certain buildings and areas. The attack on the PLC building speaks for itself. This was a war crime and an attempt to kill off the entire Gazan government in order to create a situation where Gaza would become ungovernable and lawless in the aftermath, thus making it simple for Israel and the US to install a government they had better control of. What does this say about Democracy? People hated George Bush, when he ran the first time he stole the election from Al Gore, yet no one bombed the Whitehouse and made calls to de-legitimise his war mongering illegal invasion of Iraq government. Yet in Palestine, there was a Democratic election that George Bush himself hailed as the first Democratic election. That was until the selection made by the Palestinian people was revealed and Israel and the West suddenly decided they no longer supported Democracy. Serious duplicity exposed.

Although luckily only one person was killed in this war crime, however, many of the Government are sitting in Israeli jails.



This was a topic of discussion and the Delegation was asked to help free the Politicians so they can return to governing their country. The point was not lost on the delegation, as fellow elected politicians with a mandate from their own electorate, all democratically elected politicians should be protected from being murdered and illegal internment. Otherwise what is the point of entering into politics? Democracy and the vote must be protected in all countries, even the ones Israel and America don’t like. That's the problem with upholding Democracy and Democratic principles, you have to accept the will of the voters, otherwise you are exposed as a hypocrite!

The Delegation then moved outside where it was now getting dark. In an area set up for speakers and an audience, Sir Gerald Kaufman opened the discussion with a small speech and then he was given an award. Then members of both governments and all parties spoke, including one Palestinian woman MP who was brilliant. I think the European women MEP's and MP's were quite interested in hearing a woman MP's perspective:



As this entire event lasted for a few hours, and myself being a political junkie to the extreme, I spent my time having the most incredible political discussion with this man (below) who noticed me standing off on my own:

He spoke very good English and the time sped by as we discussed politics, the siege and how important it was for the international community to get to know Gaza via cultural links and other ways, and that Gaza's hand was stretched out to the world. And that all politicians of the world should talk to each other and uphold the Democratic process, all politicians should be allowed to govern if they are democratically elected. Today it is Gazan politicians under attack, tomorrow it could be another country, maybe yours. This is one fundamental thing I agree fully on, the results of a Democratic election should be respected worldwide; all politicians must be protected from being murdered, imprisoned illegally or marginalised by powers who don’t like them for whatever reason. We have experienced this very same thing in Ireland for a great many years, we understand this completely. It took a US President, Bill Clinton to be courageous enough to shake the hand of Gerry Adams, and to engage in talks with all parties in Ireland. And the result of that historic moment was the birth of our own peace process. Who will be brave enough to repeat this with Palestine? Silence from the Obama Administration who said they would talk to all leaders of this world. This particular evening at the PLC building was one of my best experiences of my own personal trip, and I loved every minute of that experience.

WAR CRIMINALS AND RE-EDUCATION CAMPS

So, they’re all in a dither over the almost arrest of the war criminal Tzipi Livni. I thought I’d just remind people of a meeting she had with another War Criminal during the Gaza holocaust, which Livni helped conduct and defend. She was in Cairo meeting with the American war monger, Condoleezza Rice. The Washington Press Corp were there, remember them?? Remember when they actually asked pertinent and relevant questions? I digress......... So, When reporters dared to speak out over her actions and war crimes, (of course since then American journalists have been sent to re-education concentration camps) well, I can tell you those journalists didn’t last long in the press corps after they dared question Livni on Gaza. They were “removed” from the room in order to protect the criminal, by her American criminal counterpart, Rice. What is striking in this article below is that Livni does not get upset when confronted by journalists over the deaths of the innocent civilians and children in Gaza, but what she does get upset about is a question about the "then" upcoming elections where she hoped to beat Netanyahu. Only in the mind of a Zionist can an election question illicit more anger than the deaths of hundreds of children. Go figure:

Smiling after signing an anti-smuggling deal with US Secretary of State Condoleezza, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni was denounced by journalists as a "terrorist" and "murderer" of Palestinian children, reported the Yediot Aharonot on Saturday, January 17.

"Since when are terrorists accommodated here," one journalist asked at a press conference at the Washington Press Club on Friday.

The journalist started quoting a Human Rights report on the situation in Gaza, before asking Livni to comment on the murder of innocent civilians in Gaza.

"You let her speak here and don't let us ask questions," the journalist yelled when he was prevented from completing his questions to Livni, before being removed from the microphone(and then taken to the re-education concentration camp) More:

Another journalist compared the Israeli government to the authoritarian regime of Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe.

"What, are you like Zimbabwe?" another reporter asked Livni.

Livni, however, remained cool, repeating claims that Israel was trying to avoid killing civilians during its attacks in Gaza.

At least 1200 people have been killed, including 355 children and 108 women, have been killed since Israel launched a deadly offensive in Gaza on December 27.
More than 5300 others, including 1,800 children, have been wounded.

The Israeli minister only lost temper when she was asked by an Al-Jazeera reporter that if her visit to the US was part of her election campaign. (I rest my case, war criminal and enjoying every second of it!)

George W. Bush, got that right. They DO hate Americans because of their freedom.

The freedom to walk freely and not be arrested, kidnapped, detained or interned without Due Process of the Law, the freedom that comes with equality and civil rights, the freedom to get an education, the freedom to travel, the freedom to have clean water, the freedom to own a weapon to protect yourself and family, the freedom of speech and political views, the freedom to voice those views without arrest, the freedom to live free and unencumbered, the freedom to elect your government and then have it recognised worldwide as legitimate.

But most of all “the protection of life, liberty, and property”

Recognize this?

“No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws”

That is what America is supposed to represent.

However, Israel has forced America to abandon its founding principles for those of Israel instead. Killing the Goldstone report only serves to cement what Arabs and Muslims already think about America. By removing the rule of law for “one” group of people, in order to allow another “group” of people to escape the Law, makes you an accessory to that crime. Instead of proving the American principles of Justice and upholding the Law for “everyone.” America instead has sent a message to Arabs and Muslims that they don’t matter. They are 2nd class lesser people whom cannot expect the law to work for them. Use some common sense please. America “says” it wants “so called radical Muslims” to live by the law and respect the law. That’s what America preaches. However, when a UN body, led by an internationally recognised Judge who dealt with South Africa and was applauded by America, then turns to investigate Israeli war crimes, and America tells the world to pay no attention, forgo the law because Israel can do no wrong. What message does that give to all those Arabs and Muslims who AMERICA just told to respect the Law and work within legal boundaries? Congratulations America, you just told them to forget the law and only violence will work, keep bombing, keep attacking, keep blowing up buildings all over the world. Because when the ONE opportunity for America to uphold the rule of law, to lead by words, deeds and example, it failed MISREABLY!

So whilst Americans enjoy all this “freedom” maybe they should think about the stolen freedoms lost to others, which America supports by enabling Israel to make a mockery the founding principles of America itself. As you read the examples below of what just ONE week is like, living AS a Palestinian, living ON Palestinian land, IN your own country, then ask yourself if you would fight tooth and nail against a foreign oppressor that exists on YOUR soil, taking away ALL your rights, simply because they are armed to their eyeballs with AMERICAN weapons and AMERICAN support and now with even the rule of law stolen from them so Israel can continue to act with Impunity?

Remember as you read below, this all took place in ONE week inside Palestine, at the hands of an illegal Invader that breaks Internatinoal Law, an Illegal Invader that AMERICA supports and protects against prosecution under International Law , THIS IS WHY THEY HATE YOU:

Israeli soldiers detained 16 Palestinians during overnight raids in the West Bank, Israeli media reported on Thursday. link

Landscapers were ordered by Israeli forces to stop planting more than 2,000 trees ordered for part of the project's "Grow for a Greener Palestine" program on Wednesday. The soldiers told workers tree planting was illegal link

An Israeli human rights organization on Thursday filed a petition protesting the swift and forcible deportation of Bethlehem student Berlanty Azzam the day before. Berlanty, a 21-year-old Palestinian from Gaza, was granted permission to travel to the West Bank with the help of the Vatican-affiliated Catholic university. (NOTE: Christians should view the photo of this female non-Muslim student, she is wearing a cross around her neck, she is a Christian, and you thought Israel liked Christians? wise up! They only like the ones who support what they do and give them money! That is, until they are no longer needed, then you'll be discarded like everyone else.)link

Israeli settlers arrogated the home of the Al-Kurd family in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem on Tuesday. 30 settlers were seen entering the house and throwing the family's furniture into the street.link

Israeli bulldozers demolished two Palestinian houses in the Ath-Thuri neighborhood of Jerusalem on Monday. link

An Israeli man was caught by Palestinian security guards at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Onlookers said a machine gun was strapped to the man's back. link

Israeli forces seized ten Palestinians during overnight raids in the West Bank, while handing out orders for the confiscation of more land. link

Israeli forces shot and injured 18-year-old Muhammad Massa’id in Tubas Friday evening, then took the youth to a detention center despite his injury.link

Israeli soldiers raided a northern West Bank village south of Nablus on Wednesday night, forcing their way into Palestinian houses and detaining a teenager.

According to the mayor of the village of Deir Istiya, Israeli soldiers overran the town, raiding houses. link

Dozens of Israeli military vehicles closed the village of Kfil Haris, north of th West Bank town of Salfit, Thursday as they escorted a group of settlers through the area. link

At the main entrance to Jerusalem's Old City, Damascus Gate, two Palestinians were attacked . Palestinian sources said the attackers were Jewish. link

Right-wing Israeli settlers attacked the Salah family on their way to Friday prayers in a bid to take over their home in the East Jerusalem community of Beit Safafa. link

Israeli authorities ordered three Bedouin families in Jericho on Sunday to leave their land within two days before their homes are bulldozed.link

A Palestinian woman detained in 2005 has spent the last four years in an isolated cell tortured by prison guards. link

Israel prevented the second deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Hassan Khreisha, from entering Jordan from the West Bank on his way to Brussels on Monday. link

At least seven Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces in the West Bank on Tuesday. In Hebron four teenagers were detaiend during a search operation in the Al-Aroub Refugee Camp. The raid started at dawn Tuesday morning and lasted hours.

Local sources said that the Israeli forces arrested students Yousif Muhammad Issa Abu Afifa, 14, Jihad Jamal Al-Jundi, 15, Ameer Abdul Gaffar Al-Hamouz, 13, and Muhammad Khaled Ash-Sharif, 17. link

A Palestinian man was critically injured when an Israeli settler’s car struck him near the West Bank city of Qalqiliya on Wednesday night. link

The Israeli military imposed a curfew on the West Bank village of Jayyus, near the city of Qalqiliya. link

Israeli settlers residing in illegal outposts in the heart of Hebron obstructed the work of Palestinian fire fighters on Wednesday night, as crews attempted to access a burning building owned by a Palestinian family.link

Israeli forces detained a 15-year-old from Jericho on Monday morning. The boy was taken to an undisclosed location, residents said.link

Israeli authorities on Thursday handed over orders to Palestinian farmers in the district of Jericho and the Jordan Valley informing them they would have to evacuate within 16 days. link

Israeli police detained a Palestinian teen from his home in the old city of Jerusalem on Wednesday night, after police targeted his parent's home and that of his aunt, searching both buildings. Nasser Qaus, 15, was accused of participating in the demonstrations held at the Al-Aqsa Mosque two weeks ago. link

Israeli forces shot and injured a mentally disabled man in the occupied West Bank on Sunday evening during an arrest raid, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.link

Israeli soldiers raided several houses in villages near the West Bank cities of Jenin early on Thursday morning and also installed temporary military checkpoints, Palestinian security sources said. link

Two children were injured when ordnance left behind by the Israeli military exploded in Al-Bureij Refugee Camp in the central Gaza Strip on Thursday morning. link

Israeli soldiers distributed warnings of house demolitions on Wednesday to three Palestinians from Ad-Dayheh, near the city of Nablus.link

Israeli forces seized a Palestinian near the northern West Bank city of Nablus on Sunday. link

Israel Trades Prisoners For Information

It is being reported that the Zionsits are trading 20 Palestinian women prisoners for information on the POW Gilad Shalit.

Israel will free 20 Palestinian women for information from Hamas on the condition of an Israeli soldier held in the Gaza Strip, an Egyptian security source and the Israeli prime minister's office said on Wednesday.

Egyptian and German mediators would continue to work on a deal to exchange the soldier, Gilad Shalit, for the hundreds of Hamas prisoners the Islamist movement has been demanding, the Egyptian source said.

In the meantime, Israel would receive proof Shalit was alive and details about his condition. source

Lawyer Tayab Ali says he has failed to get a British judge to issue an arrest warrant for the visiting Israeli defense minister on the grounds of alleged war crimes committed during the attack on Gaza, which began late last year.

Palestinian human rights groups had hoped to take advantage of Britain's principle of universal jurisdiction to have Barak arrested.

But Israeli officials said Barak was immune from prosecution because of his status as a senior government official and said his visit would continue as planned.

Ali said Tuesday he was disappointed with the decision.

Palestinian families apply for international arrest warrant for Ehud Barak over military offensive in Gaza

British lawyers for 16 Palestinians are seeking to obtain an international arrest warrant for the Israeli defence minister, Ehud Barak, in a London court over alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

Barak, who was in overall charge of Israeli's offensive in Gaza earlier this year, is due to speak at a meeting at the Labour party conference in Brighton today.
Barak is also due to meet Gordon Brown and David Miliband, the foreign secretary, for talks on the Middle East and Iran.

The legal action relates to alleged war crimes and breaches of the Geneva conventions during the war, which was launched by Israel in response to Palestinian rocket attacks and widely criticised internationally.

Solicitors are asking a district judge at the City of Westminster magistrates court to issue a warrant for Barak's arrest under the 1988 Criminal Justice Act, which gives courts in England and Wales universal jurisdiction in war crimes cases. The application alleges that Barak has committed offences against the 1957 Geneva conventions.

Barak, who is also deputy prime minister of Israel and leader of the country's Labour party, could argue that his government office guarantees him "state immunity" from prosecution. But lawyers from two London law firms, Irvine Thanvi Natas and Imran Khan & Partners, believe the warrant that the international criminal court issued in May last year for the arrest of Omar al-Bashir, the president of Sudan, offers a precedent. Bashir is accused of committing war crimes in Darfur.

The issue is both politically explosive and legally sensitive.

Today's hearing was delayed while the court asked the Foreign Office to clarify Barak's status in the UK. However, the lawyers making the application believe a warrant could be issued even if Barak is, as he would certainly argue, in Britain in an official capacity. A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We cannot comment on live legal issues." Barak and his wife are understood to have arrived in the UK on Saturday.

Michel Massih, a barrister, said he believed the British government was obliged "to actively pursue people who are alleged to be involved in war crimes".

Massih told al-Jazeera TV: "One does not need, at this stage, to provide more than a basic prima face case and the suggestion would be that Barak certainly was in a position where he has to answer some of the allegations made about the commission of crimes by Israeli troops."

Israeli media reported that Barak had been warned about the impending legal action and urged to leave the UK for France. But his office said he had decided to carry on with his schedule as there was no doubt he enjoyed diplomatic immunity "due to his being a minister in the government".

In 2005, human rights groups criticised British authorities for failing to arrest Doron Almog, an Israeli general for whom an arrest warrant for alleged war crimes had been issued when his aircraft landed in London. Almog stayed on the plane at Heathrow after being informed that he could face arrest and was allowed to return to Israel. SOURCE

A United Nations group will present a scathing report Tuesday on Israel's conduct during its military offensive into Gaza that began late last year

In the report, released earlier this month, the U.N. group accused Israel of committing "actions amounting to war crimes, possibly crimes against humanity" during its military incursion into Gaza from December 27 to January 18.

The group, called the U.N. Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict, is headed by South African judge Richard Goldstone.

Goldstone is scheduled to present the 400-plus page report to the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva Tuesday.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights will present her own report after Goldstone.

The report claims that the Israeli Defense Forces "failed to take feasible precautions required by international law to avoid or minimize loss of civilian life, injury to civilians and damage to civilian objects."

The U.N. report also said Israel fired the chemical agent white phosphorous in civilian areas, intentionally fired upon hospitals using high-explosive artillery shells, and failed to provide effective warnings to civilians or U.N. workers before attacks. It also claims that Israel used Palestinian civilians as human shields and deliberately attacked Palestinian food supplies in Gaza.

The report recommends that the U.N. Security Council require the government of Israel to launch appropriate independent investigations into the findings of the report within three months. RAMALLAH, West Bank: Israel has informed the Palestinian Authority (PA) that it will not authorize the operation of a second cellular phone network until the PA withdraws its demand that the International Criminal Court in The Hague investigate alleged Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip, as documented in the Goldstone Commission report, the daily Haaretz said Sunday.

The issue of a second cellular provider is at the center of talks between the PA, the international Quartet and Israel and has been ongoing for months. Currently the sole provider is Pal-Tel and Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad considers the introduction of another carrier as an important step in improving the civilian infrastructure in the West Bank. The project is central to Wataniya Palestine, the company that is set to serve as the second provider, and profits are expected to be substantial.

But if the project is not approved by Oct. 15, the PA will be forced to pay a penalty estimated at $300 million, the sum that has already been invested in licensing and infrastructure. SOURCE

Delegates at the TUC Congress will vote on a call to boycott Israeli goods and ban the importation of products from "illegal Israeli settlements". The motion has been put forward by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) and it is supported by Unite and Unison.

The FBU will call for an end to arms trading with Israel, a ban on importing goods from "illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied territories" and promotion of a consumer-led boycott. It wants members of the TUC to boycott Israeli goods, especially agricultural products produced in the settlements. The FBU is taking a stand against Israel's offensive in Gaza in January. Palestinians and human rights groups say more than 1,400 Gazans were killed during the three-week operation, but Israel puts the figure at 1,166.

Israel Crashes Jet Into Palestine

This comes under the heading of "Ooooops I should have stayed home " An Israeli terrorist fighter jet flying over the country of Palestine illegally has crash landed killing the terrorist pilot. The pilot was the son of the only Zionist astronaut, who also died in the Space Shuttle explosion.

An Israeli F-16 fighter jet has crashed in the West Bank, killing the pilot.

The 21-year-old pilot, Assaf Ramon, was the son of Israel's only astronaut, Ilan Ramon, who died in the explosion of the space shuttle Columbia in 2003.

An unidentified Palestinian told Israeli TV that the plane had flown low over the southern West Bank before crashing.

"There was a huge fire," the eyewitness said.

Lt Assaf Ramon graduated from the Israeli air force pilot's course earlier this year. source

And the world ignores it................Apparently much of the world has now adopted the Bush policy of kidnapping people on their own soil, imprisoning them without trial, interning them, and commiting an act of war on another country. So, in light of tese events, Bush must be so proud as his policies have gained so much support that no one even bats and eyelash when these things are done on a weekly basis. And you thought there was only "one" Bush?

At least four Bedouin Shepherds have been KIDNAPPED after a special Israeli army unit stormed a village in the northern Gaza Strip.

On Sunday, the four men were herding their flock near the town of Beit Lahiya located a few hundred meters from the Gaza Strip's northern border with Israel, eye witnesses said.

According to residents of al-Nasser village, Israeli tanks rolled about one hundred meters into Gaza followed by a unit of special forces who advanced further to kidnap the shepherds.

Also on Sunday, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas announced that an Israeli helicopter opened fire on Gaza in a quick incursion apparently aimed at providing a cover for the troops. source

You know it’s pretty hard to live up to that “American False Dream” of being the great supporter of “Democracy and Freedom” when you systematically strip that from Muslims in a fake war on “Terror.” And speaking of that “War on Terror” it always made me laugh because it is un-definable, what is “terror?” Well, to a Palestinian it’s hearing the hum of American supplied Israeli drones carrying White Phosphorous. But to America, its shadowy figures you can’t ever really see and who are not in America. I digress….

So America wanted to change its image and elected a snake oil salesman, the Messiah, the “one” the “Hope Man” but quickly the “hope” faded and we were left with a “Dope” instead. Just another Bush with a shiny new face. His Administration is even using the phrase "War On Terror" and he's fiddling with elections in other countries, Shame, Shame Shame........Is this what YOU hoped for???

Sweden's foreign minister abruptly called off a visit to Israel this week, an Israeli spokesman said Sunday, amid a feud over a Swedish newspaper article and a growing gulf between Israel and the international community over West Bank settlement construction.

Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has called off a trip to Israel planned for this Friday, according to Yigal Palmor, spokesman for Israel's Foreign Ministry. Palmor, who would not comment on a possible reason for the move, said Sweden informed Israel's embassy in Stockholm of the decision on Friday.

The Swedish decision came the same day Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu drew international condemnation for deciding to approve hundreds of new apartments in West Bank settlements in defiance of U.S., European and Palestinian calls for a total settlement freeze. Sweden holds the rotating European Union presidency.

But the cancellation also followed a diplomatic feud between Israel and Sweden over an unsubstantiated article in a Swedish tabloid that accused Israeli soldiers of harvesting organs from dead Palestinians and suggested a connection with an international organ trafficking ring run by Jews. Israeli officials condemned the article as anti-Semitic and reminiscent of medieval blood libels against Jews.(Yes, every thing critical of Israel is of course "Anti-Semitic" including war crimes)source

Israeli military vehicles, including three armored bulldozers invaded on Friday the Gaza Strip following warplanes struck the Gaza Strip early near the southern city of Khan Yunis, witnesses said.

The air strike targeted a tunnel under Gren Linde, an Israeli military spokeswoman said.

Also on Friday, witnesses in Gaza said Israeli military vehicles, including three armored bulldozers, razed farmland about 100 meters east of Gaza City. Israeli forces also reportedly fired on houses in the area.

The overnight strike took place in the town of Al-Khuza'a, close to the Green Line. Medical officials at An-Nasser Hospital in the nearby city of Khan Younis said that while the strike caused a state of panic among residents of the area, there were no physical injuries.

The military also said the strike was a response to mortar shells that were fired from northern Gaza on Thursday night.

South Africa To Punish Israel?

Human rights groups around the world have been attempting to bring war crimes charges against Israel. Using Lawfare and International laws, there have so far been many suits filed, but Israel's powerful lobbyists and control over foreign governments have so far succeeded in having charges dismissed. The case in Spain looked good, then Israel worked its magic at top levels of the government and soon the poor Judge was forced to drop the case. Additionally the American AIPAC spy case fell the same way, with all involved going free and a strong message sent to Israel that it is "OK" to spy on America. Well, perhaps South Africa will withstand the Zionists reach and ultimately be the one who stands up to the war criminals. A state known to have suffered apartheid akin to the Palestinians, they now are free to govern themselves and forge their own future. Should South Africa succeed, how prophetic would that be, given it's history..........

South Africa crack fighting unit, the National Prosecuting Authority, has been urged to prosecute people suspected of war crimes in Gaza. The call was made by the Palestinian Solidarity Alliance (PSA) and the Media Review Network (MRN).

The two organizations handed the NPA a file of about 3500 pages, which they said indicated prima facie evidence that “South African citizens and/or residents are implicated in the commissions of these crimes”.

The organizations brought their application under a South African law, which gives effect to the Rome Statute.

It makes the prosecution of war crimes and crimes against humanity a legal obligation. It covers South Africans and anyone who sets foot in SA alleged to have committed war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide.

The evidence includes a recent report by the Human Science Research Council which found Israel’s policies in occupied Palestinian territory to “fit the definition of apartheid” in international law. Apartheid has been deemed a crime against humanity.
